Any thoughts on alternative JP1 remotes with learning that have a good layout for a cable box/pvr and at least 4 macro keys?
Do you still have at least one other (non-learning) JP1 remote that you would use if there was an upgrade available? If yes, then you don't need a learning remote with a good layout, you just need a learning remote, any JP1 learner would do, as you would just use it to capture the signals. If there are none available in the shops, check ebay. If you have a modern FTDI cable, just be sure to by an equivalent remote as older EEPROM remotes won't work with that cable (without an adapter).

No, I don't have a learning remote that still works. How can I determine which remotes will work with my JP1.2/3 cable? (see photo attached). Is it an FTDI? Since I live in Canada and practically all sellers of remotes are in the US, eBay is not going to be the answer because of insane shipping costs.

I'm pretty sure that the only JP-1x remote that is readily available in Canada is the URC-3660. It does have learning, and a quick search shows that they are currently available at Amazon.ca, Best Buy, Visions, Canada Computers, and out here on the left coast, at London Drugs. (Nov. 2025)
