Thank You Graham!
The new version of RMIR works great with my Xsight Colour.
Thanks again!

RMIR 2.03.25c Generates Invalid RMIR File

For the last few months I have been migrating my HTPC from Windows Media Center to MediaPortal, and now I want to revise my remote controls to fit MediaPortal better.
I downloaded and installed RMIR 2.03.25c, reset my Xsight Lite remote control (using the 981 procedure to obtain a factory reset), and
using the remote control I defined four devices:
1058 (Audio), 1508 (TV), 1176 (PVR), 1272 (HTPC)
I then started RMIR, downloaded from the remote control, and saved the file to disk. This file reloads into RMIR successfully.
This afternoon I have been performing a code hunt to find a code to select a specific input on my Sony "Scala 2" audio system; this code is missing from 1058. Now I did eventually find this code, but in the process I have created a file that no longer reloads into RMIR (an error is diagnosed).
I did notice one quirk. In "Device Upgrade Editor" on the "Functions" tab, I added several lines in order to try several codes that I thought might work (one did). I then wanted to delete the non-working lines, but the "Delete" button was greyed out. So I then blanked all of the fields on the unwanted lines, and clicked the "Clean Up" button. The unwanted lines duly disappeared. But, on switching to another tab, and then switching back to "Functions", the blank lines re-appeared, so they had not really been deleted. If they were written to disk when the file was saved, perhaps it is these that have caused the reload problem?
I will post the RMIR file and RMIR error log when I have figured out how to do that. Thank you.
These are the files:

I have now posted
RMIR v2.03 Alpha 26.

I have added a new entry in the Options menu of RM (not RMIR) for "Separate Save folder" that I hope meets your needs. When selected, an Open operation opens in the last folder used to load a .rmdu file and a Save As operation in the last one used to save a .rmdu file. When deleselected, both operations open in the last folder used for either of them. The setting and folders are preserved between instances of RM and the Save As folder is preserved when this option is deselected, so when re-selected, Save As returns to the last folder used before deselection. This option also affects the default Load and Save folders in the RMIR Device Editor, though the option can only be changed within RM.

The quirk is indeed responsible for the file corruption. The Delete button is greyed out if the function is assigned to a button of the remote, to prevent you from deleting a function that is in use. You need to use the Buttons or Layout tabs to delete the assignment before you can delete the function. Clean Up, on the other hand, deletes all functions that do nothing, as the hex data is empty. Usually an empty function is not assigned to a button, so this causes no trouble. By deleting the data from an assigned function, you got Clean Up to delete it but it left the assignment to a (now) non-existent function, causing the file corruption.
I have modified this behaviour in Alpha 26 so that Clean Up deletes any assignments before it deletes the functions, so all should now be well. If you didn't manage to sort your setup out and would like a repaired version of the setup you posted, let me know as I can do that.

I missed this one when I was trawling through posts looking for things needing doing for Alpha 26. I see the point about the recent file lists and will do that for the next version, but I don't understand your request about the open dialog filters. When I open the Open dialog in either RM or RMIR, the default file filter is already All Supported Files, which includes .ir for RMIR and .txt for RM, so what is it you want that is not already there?

Thanks Graham. I have downloaded Alpha 26 and will recreate the definitions from scratch.
Setting up the Xsight Lite to work optimally with my HTPC is a "long-term" project, due to several irritating quirks that exist with Windows Media Center and MediaPortal, and for which I need to devise work-arounds!

Thanks Graham, I had missed that you put in the save folder. I thank you, and my arm thanks you! I saved a file in my area, then I downloaded/opened an RDMU from the web, and when I went to save it, I was where I wanted to be, instead of down in my temp folder. That going up and down the tree was just such a drag.
The change is such a big help.
Thank you very much.

Thanks for that. You're right that the other part is already there. False alarm.

Dave, I was about to do this when I discovered something that puzzled me. If you open a .rmdu file from RMIR, it naturally opens it in an instance of RM, but it adds the file to the Recent Files list of RMIR, not RM. What I had thought you wanted was for me to add .ir files to the Recent Files list of RMIR, and .txt files to that of RM. Am I wrong, do you want them both in the list for RMIR?
My own feeling is that the present behaviour is wrong. I think it would be better if, when RMIR opens a .rmdu file, it added it to the Recent Files of RM, not RMIR (though I have yet to investigate how this might be done).
I would like your comments, please, before I make any changes.
Edit: Further testing shows that when you open a .rmdu file from RMIR, it is stored in the Recent Files list of whichever of RMIR and RM you close last, thus muddying the waters still further.

What you propose is fine, IR to RMIR's list and txt to RM's. I see no reason for RMDU files to be in RMIR 's list either.

OK, done. Here is
RMIR v2.03 Alpha 26a. I have made the additions, and have also removed .rmdu from the types that can be added to Recent Files in RMIR. Of course, .rmdu files can still be opened in RMIR and will open a new instance of RM, but they will no longer show in the Recent Files list.

I have posted a revised version of RMIR v2.03 Alpha 26a in which the only file changed is protocols.ini. The original release contained an updated version of protocols.ini that unfortunately appears to cause a problem with NEC protocols. This revision returns the entries for NEC protocols to their original form but keeps the other revisions that were included. My apologies to those who downloaded the version originally posted.

Hi all, I am not sure if this is the right place to post my issue. Please advice if its not.
I am a new user and just purchased Xsight touch 18 device universal remote. Downloaded RMIR latest release and set it up.
The devices I have are:
Yamaha rx-v667 Code: 3030
Xbox 360 Code: 3949
Sony BDP-S3100 Code: 1516
Element ELEFT502 Code: 2183
I am able to configure and set up simple activities for all but the element TV. The element tv is from last year's (2013) target black friday sale. May be its a store specific model hence the issue.
The remote doesnt have any model numbers. All I can see is IECR03 under the battery.
I am trying to create activities like watch TV/Watch Blu ray/Play games. Everything requires the TV to set to HDMI 1 (all inputs coming through yamaha receiver to HDMI 1 port on the element TV).
I can't seem to find a code/sequence to switch TV to HDMI1 or any input with activity. The TV only turns ON, and stays on the previous input prior to turning it OFF.
Also, I can't seem to find discrete on/off for TV. Its just Power, no main power off or main power on.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Unfortunately, cheaper TVs often lack discrete power and input codes. But you can find them if they exist. Load the 4 device upgrades in the zip file below and press every key starting with GUIDE through ENTER and every command on the LCD. There are 256 commands in all which cover every possible command a device could have. You'll run across all the commands on the original remote plus any unknown discrete codes. We call this a brute force search. If you find any good candidates, we can add them to your current Element TV device.
There is always a small risk of running into some service code that puts your TV in a weird state. So be aware that you may have to reset the TV if this happens. The risk is very low, however.
If it turns out no discretes exist, then I would recommend you add TV power and input to the Assist section so any unwanted power or input switching can be corrected. Or put the TV power and input commands on the LCD for every activity for easy access. Or leave them out of the activity macro altogether and always use the commands as needed manually. That's the best you can do when no discretes exist.

Thanks. Will try with the file. I have no idea how to use that file, but definitely will read up and try it.
