JP1 Remotes

Sorry, I reallyshould have posted sooner. Basically, I've been so snowed under with work these last couple of weeks that I haven't yet had time to post my IR files online. Also, I DO have the new firmware of the remote control (the model number actually ends in R00 but I'm led to believe that this means it is the B01 chipset, especially as it is the B01 signature that successfully transfers via WAV to the handset)

...so if the extender doesn't work on the R01 chipset, there doesn't reallly seem any point and I suppose I shall have to take it back to the shop. I guess I need a confirmation from somebody who is 100% certain that the extender does not work on the newer firmware, i.e. the URC 7562 B01

I can always try to post the IR file when I'm next at home if you think it would help?

I can confirm that the “R00” behaves exactly as a B01 with all the JP1 stuff.

I have an “R00” which I purchased from the UK on Ebay, and it behaves identically to a B01 with all my JP1 files.

I think your conclusions are correct, and this is the reason it accepts your WAV when you “hack” the signature to B01.

What you’ve really done by doing that, though, is to fool the remote into accepting a configuration with which it will not operate.

That’s why it “crashes” every time you try to execute a command after loading like this.

I can sort of replicate this behaviour by uploading a working B00 extender configuration into a B01 (you can force IR to do this with a JP1 cable)

When I do that I see exactly the same type of crash.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that this means you cannot use this extender with this remote – it just isn’t compatible. I think the Extenders make machine code calls to addresses in ROM on the remote to execute functions, and I assume this fails with a different ROM, and that that is what we are seeing here.

The only way over this, I think, would be if one of the experts here was willing to alter the extender code to work with the new remote – and that might be a pretty big task for someone. It’s a pretty old extender. Sadly, my assembler skills stopped 25 years ago with the ZX Spectrum…

There’s probably little point in uploading your IR file at this point – all this is likely to achieve is a reply from me confirming that it doesn’t work even when uploaded with a JP1 cable, or that it does work in a B00 – neither of which are probably much use to you.

I guess the other option would be for you to upload your file, and if I can upload it to a B00 and it works, then I'll swap remotes with you

I don't need extenders in my configuration, so I don't care - and I actually prefer a couple of the behaviour changes introduced in the B01.

(The B00 I would use for this is mint condition.)
