Transistor Counterfeit?

I saw a couple warnings about counterfeits on the internet also, but am doubtful that any person or company would go to the trouble of producing a part and then miss-marking it. It is just not cost effective. It should be noted that improvements in processes could result in the transistor looking quite different on the inside (or even the outside). It is the performance that is important and the quality controls that ensure that performance.
This is not to say that poor quality components don't exist. I wouldn't be overly concerned, especially if from a reliable source or parts with name brand markings.
