Here's the original complaint:
lbest111 wrote:... the computer becomes locked up when I attempt to load a file. It is really locked up. I have to turn off the computer power to regain control. I tried the latest version of RM. No help. I downloaded the latest version of JAVA runtime and it helped a bit. Now I can regain control of the lockup with control-alt-delete...
This does not sound like a reboot or BSOD to me.

Yes, I have a shortcut to remotemaster.jar. But I never put it in until the problem started. I will take it out.
I tried restoring XP back to December 1 and all I got out of it was the near loss of 30 hours of edited TV movies. I did an undo on the restore and won't try the restore function again.
How do I erase Remote Master and start over.? I tried running the special version of RM (with extra error messages) and got an error message when I clicked on a rmdu file. The error message says it can't find a file on the path specified, which is the path specified by the original RM installation.
RM is now confused because there are 2 versions installed.

The question isn't if you have a shortcut to RemoteMaster.jar on your Desktop.
Do you have a shortcut to your Desktop on your Desktop?
To remove RM, just delete the folder that contains RemoteMaster.jar

Yes, I did have a shortcut to my Desktop on my Desktop. I removed it and re-installed RM and everthing works as it should.
I have no idea how the shortcut got there. I don't know what I used it for or if I ever used it at all.
Thanks ALL for your help.
