But that was my point. Un-extended, KM and IR can't do Key Moves on the 6131 (though it's probable that the next IR release will). With the extender, both can be used to create Key Moves just like any other JP1 remote. In this case, the 6131 extender does offer a "compelling reason" to use it.

But thanks to JohnsFine I can do key moves for the handful of keys that I can't handle using the Buttons Sheet in KM.

It's not that I'm against the extender. It's just a level of complexity/maintanence that I don't want to add until I have to. I worry that every time my kids toss the remotes around or drop them, the batteries will come loose and I'll have to restart the extender.

You probably read where I mentioned that problem with my kids and my 15-2104's. But I think I also mentioned that restarting an extender is very easy.

I also think most kids abuse remotes less than my kids do, and most UEI remotes have a more secure battery compartment than a 15-2104, so the batteries don't disconnect as often. (My URC-6800 got far more abuse than the 15-2104's with far fewer cases of deactivating the extender).
