JP1 Remotes

I'd never heard of DVD/0677 before, so I looked it up. It uses 144.0 (just the same as the VCR/0162 code).

You say that your player didn't respond to any of the DVD/0490 codes, but then you included the MENU button in your list of keymoves (with is a 176.0 code). Which setup code did you use to program this button? Also, the DVD button that you mentioned earlier, did you try this as a keymove using DVD/0490.

Could you also mention which remote you are using. The fact that it included DVD/0677 narrows the list down to URC-8811, 15-2116/7, 15-2133 and REM400.

Sorry Rob, I didn't make myself clear. What I was trying to say is that the DVD/0490 device codes don't work for the majority of the DVD functions. I realize now that it sounds like I was contradicting what you said about the DVD key. I'm sure you're right about that and the Menu key. Since I was already using my own device code for the DVD key, I did the same for the Menu key. I suppose I really should go back and do it right, otherwise it will be on my mind every time I use those keys.

I'm using a 15-2117. I use the RF link to control a remote MythTV box with IR keyboard commands. Unfortunately the link picks up a lot of interference and sends random keystrokes.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this..., but life keeps getting in the way of my fun

The 6131 instructions say that for combo units (TV/VCR or TV/DVD.. they did not imagine TV/VCR/DVD) that if you input the code for the DVD or the VCR that it will operate the TV also.

The two codes listed for the Panny TV are 0051 and 0250. The 0250 code will change video selections and adjust the volume, but will not turn the tv on or off and will not change channels... (adjusts input selection instead).

What I have found is that none of the panasonic codes for the DVD(0490,0632,1490) do anything on the 6131 remote. The 1362 & 1462 codes will turn on/off the TV and pressing the channel button will cycle the TV/Video selection, but will not operate any of the DVD functions. I tried the 0677 code that Brett mentions above, but after entering the code I do not get the acceptance flash (double flash) from the remote... so apparently the remote does not recognize that code for a DVD player.

On the VCR the 1162 & 1262 codes will set up the VCR to operate just fine and the power button will turn the TV off and on. However, there is no control for volume on the TV.

All I have ever done with my JP1 cable is to upload files that have been sent to me, so I am a compete dolt as to any of the rest of this stuff.

The last 6131 I have is not a JP1 model, so I have tried the standard codes trying to operate my Panasonic PV-DF-2704 TV/combo without much succes.

Are there any standard codes that I could put into a 3 button black ReplayTV remote that would operate all three units? What about standard codes for the 6131 remote.

Failing that can I cut and paste the information in your post to a text file and then use IR to move that into my black 3 button ReplayTV remote (via JP1 cable)??

Do you still have any desire for the Radio Shack 15-1994 remote?

Okay I used the URC-8811 remote I purchased from Rob to Learn the DVD button from the TV's remote... I can read it in the learned functions list of IR. It shows up as Panasonic Device 176, sub device 0, OBC 255, Hex Command 00, EFC 018.

Now how can I move this information over to a file that I can then install on my older 3 button ReplayTV remote (that has a JP1 connector)?? I want to change the CATV button to operate the DVD on the Panny TV/DVD/VCR combo unit.

Then I can try and learn the TV functions and move them the same way... perhaps

The 6131 (non JP1) does not recognize the 0176 code for the DVD player.

There used to be a FAQ here for all of the codes and tricks on the ReplayTV remotes... but all of the links appear to be dead

I mentioned that the DVD/0490 setup code was a match to the 176.0 learned signals in my 24 Nov 2004 08:38 am post (at the top of this page).

As an alternative to creating an upgrade that includes all of the functions from all of the different device codes (ie, 176.0, 144.0, etc) you can continue using the 144.0 code that you are currently using, and then to program any functions that use the 176.0 device code, you can use keymoves against the DVD/0490 setup code.

This concept isn't described in any FAQ that I know of because I'm not sure what general question it would be the answer to.

The process of programming keymoves (on the remote itself) is described here:

The help doc that I sent you describes the process of creating and loading upgrades. However, it does also give a brief overview of how you use IR.exe in section 4.

In this case, the EFC (aka "advanced code") that you need, according to your previous post, is 018.

For this example, let's pretend that you want to program this function to the INPUT button in CBL mode. To program this using IR.exe, you would...

1) Go to the "Keymoves" tab
2) Click ADD
3) In the "Bound Key" section, Select the Device mode (ie, CBL) and button (ie, INPUT) that you wish to program this function.
4) Then 2/3rd down the screen, select VCR/DVD as the device type and enter 0490 as the Setup Code.
5) On the next line, select the EFC radio button and enter 018 as the EFC.
6) Click OK.

To do this on the remote (without using JP1), you should first temporarily assign the DVD/0490 setup code to the VCR button. The remainding steps vary depending on whether you wish to program this function to a button under the VCR device button, or a button under a different device button. Let's again pretend that you want to program the INPUT button.

For a VCR button...

1) Press VCR
2) Press and hold SETUP, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Press (and release) SETUP (no flashes)
5) Type 014
6) Press the button to be programmed (ie, INPUT), 2 flashes

For a button in another device mode (let's use CBL as an example) ...

1) Press and hold SETUP, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press VCR
4) Press (and release) SETUP (no flashes)

7) Press the button to be programmed (ie, INPUT), 2 flashes

Once this is complete, you can re-assign the setup code that you were previously using on the VCR device button.

The first problem with this is..........

The DVD/0490 code does not operate the DVD on this Combo unit.

If you put the 1162 code into the VCR, with the VCR button selected the power button will turn the TV off and on as the setup info for the 6131 states. The ff, play, rw, etc buttons all work for the VCR just fine.

However, when you put the 0490 code into the DVD button, nothing works. You cannot power the TV on or off (not a big deal), but you also cannot switch the TV into DVD mode, nor can you control the DVD if you manually switch the TV over to the DVD function. It does not seem to work at all for this combo unit.

I'm sorry Steve, but I don't know how better to explain it than how I did, if you don't believe me that it will work and you're not prepared to try what I suggested, I don't think I can be of any further assitance. Sorry.

Rob, it is not a matter of being unwilling to follow your intructions... I tried them, but was unsuccessful getting anything to work... then I went back to re-read the instructions and they seem to be based around this 0490 code , which I have tried several times and know it does not work.

As I am trying to program the DVD button on the black ReplayTV remote I followed the instructions below. However in the instructions for assigning the information to "another" (in my case the catv button which I turned into a DVD button)........ which device is the "other" device button mentioned in step six for "a button in another device mode." I follow along until I get to step six... it seems to me that the "other" device button in step six is exactly the same as the "button to be programmed" in step seven, which then makes no sense........

Okay so I tried this technique using the JP1 cable on the Black ReplayTV remote.
I followed each step and at the end when I uploaded the file back to the Replay remote I got two flashes.

However, when I try using the remote on the TV ... the VCR button will still allow me to turn on the Tv and control the VCR, but the DVD button (catv) when selected does not control any functions at all.

Could somebody else jump in here and try explaing the process, maybe hearing a different persons spin will make it clearer. I'm at a loss as to how to explain it any better.

Also, I added a little clarification regarding the "other" device button in my earlier "step by step" instructions.
