I'm a n00b here too and just recently figuring out what an extender is. Anyone who comes from the Cellular world will understand the relationship. Motorolas can be tweaked and hacked with a thing called SEEM Editing, an Extender is sort of like "Seem Editing" your tv remote control to enable features that were not present durring manufacturing or branding process.
