Programming of URC 7950 fails.

I am not able to solve my 9750 problems by myself and since this thread looks like dead, in my desperation I got me a 6430. According to OFA, it can be programmed online.

Now, my first impression was a horrible mess of buttons, worse than I feared from the images I'd seen. But I thought I'd give it a chance, maybe I could get something out of the few buttons I really needed anyway.

I don't need to control the TV except for ON/OFF.

All else is done with the cable/sat tuner, at present a Dreambox - to be replaced with a VU+,

So how do I control the VU+? Myself, I can do with the original remote.

But my wife can't.

For many years she's been using the original Dreambox remote, with the ON/OFF function handled by a macro I created on the "Audio" button. It switches the TV on (or OFF) - and switches the remote from TV to SAT.

From there se can select channels to view and control volume, and we are both happy.

I was hoping I could create a coresponding ease of use on the VU+ but I am unable to do that with the 7950. I'd prefer for her to use the DB remote but we can do with the 7950 if that is not possible.

I understand the proble with 7950 can be solved with an upgrade but I feel like that is beyond my capability.

Another problem is that in spite of much trying, I have not been able to make the 6430 work properly with the VU+. None of the two codes that according to OFA should work for VU+ wouls work. I tried teaching it by the learn method, but operation was erratic much like what I already experienced from learning on the 7950.

FYI, I am not sixty anymore, I am eightyfour.

I will continue on the non-jp1 section.

Sorry, I missed the additional input you provided a few days ago. The VU+ signals are MCE Ir protocol, device 16.82, and apparently this device.subdevice pair is not built into any UEI remote. So we'll need to add an upgrade. Possibly simpleset.com can add the appropriate code to your URC-6430, but I think you've said that you would be happiest to use the Dreambox remote, and if that can't be done, then the URC-7950.

I'm sure we can make the 7950 work, and if the Dreambox is new enough to read via a flash cable like the one you use with the 7950, we can make it work also.

But... This is all going to be a lot easier if you use RMIR rather than IR.exe (especially 8.02, which is 2 versions old). RMIR is much easier to use. I see that you have installed RemoteMaster, which should have included RMIR. I hope that you installed version 2.02a or newer; if not you need to install that. Check in Help/About to see which version you have now.

Download from the Dreambox remote. Save a RMIR file (File\SaveAs) so that you can if necessary restore the Dreambox memory. If the download succeeds, you then should be able to add this upgrade for the VU+ Ultimo. If you have any problems, save the new RMIR file and upload it here.

If you can't download from the Dreambox, try the 7950, again saving a RMIR file. After you've read in the upgrade, you'll need to visit the Learned Signals tab and delete the learns. Othewise the remote will give priority to the learned signals and ignore the upgrade.
