What would be the advantage of using that WMC software versus the 1972 device code built into the RCA remote?

I presume a JP1 cable would be needed, which I do not have.

Using the media center upgrade allows you to assign functions to the keys
(buttons) you want including phantom keys, add pauses to macros if
needed, and print the key assignment and macros. For other devices
such as TV using an upgrade allows the use of discrete codes such as on,
off and input select. You need a cable to use any upgrades.

Not only that, you don't have to enter any codes! Just drag and drop functions onto buttons on a graphic of the remote.
