Apparently the main processor is a "60k Samsung KB Flash COB IC" which is described as a "new version on an existing part".
Any obvious reason why IR wouldn't be able to talk to this remote?

I haven't even tried. I have no interest in the remote if I can't program it using JP1.

mathdon has done a great deal of work and RMIR now supports the OARI06G and several other JP1.4 and JP2 remotes. You need to download both the RMIR distribution and the new RDFs.
