Al,

Sounds like you are using the "windows standalone" version, not the Java version. Is that right?

Yes, but the Java version exhibits the same symptom

Al, here's a trial version of RM v1.92 that should work better for you.

Works perfectly. And even the File > Recent is working as well.

Nicely done, many thanks :-)

OK, apologies in advance for being a real pain :-)

I see you have cured the problem by saving the config file directly in the User area. Unfortunately, being an exceptionally tidy person (anal retentive ?) when it comes to my folder structure and the contents I don't really like a file just being dumped in my area. Especially when Microsoft have actually supplied a proper way of doing it by giving each user an \Appdata\,.Progname.>\ subfolder to put information like that in.

Any chance.... ? :-)

BTW, I tried making the config file 'hidden', but that causes the program to freeze up again.

Sorry

Al

I hate adding Windows-specific code, but I'll see what I can do.

BTW, there's a reason RemoteMaster.properties was stored with RemoteMaster.jar/exe. It wasn't an oversight.

Users wanted
  • Multiple independent versions of RM, with seperate RemoteMaster.properties files
  • RM to exist completely within a single folder, making it easy to delete, move, copy.
Of course, that was all before the Windows standalone version.

Makes perfect sense. But then Microsoft comes along..... :-)

On reflection, it might just be easier to acknowledge in the Readme file that Microsoft Vista Users cannot install the program in the \Program Files\ folder but have to pick another area. I'd be quite happy to live with that provided I knew about the limitation.

Work in Mac OS X?

Is this version of RemoteMaster supposed to work in Mac OS X?

I used a different version, at least a year ago, in Mac OS X, and at that time it didn't require any special setup. I just opened the JAR file and it worked.

Is anything new needed for Mac OS support now?

All RM needs is a Java 1.6 runtime.
