How do I convert JP1 code to Pronto code?

Post by chrismason »

I have a TV that I have successfully gathered all of the nessacary JP1 code info by using my RS Kameleon (15-2133).
I have the "txt" file and have used it to create a working "upgrade" for my Kameleon remote, so I know it works.
According to the .txt file it uses NEC1 on device 189.

I need to convert that code to Pronto hex codes to use with my AMX Netlinx Ni-3000 Integrated controller, to copy the codes directly into AMX's propriatary "IREdit" software.

What would be the easiest way to do so and can someone expalin the process? (Please...)

Thank you very much in advance!

We have several tools that will do what you want

IRMaster is the newest. I don't have much experience with it, but it looks pretty easy and should have all the pieces you need.

Makehex Gui
Is easy to use, but you need to download a bunch of stuff, Makehex, Makehex Gui, and then DecodeIR2.43 to get the newest IRP files.

IRScope
Is really easy to work with if you Import your UEI learns one at a time, you can export the pronto hex.

All methods are pretty easy and will give you the pronto hex you need.

The simplest method would be to use MakeHex

I just ran MakeHex for NEC1 dev 189 and the results are here:

You'll have to match up the generated code to the function names using the OBC (function) codes.

Vicky and Robman... quite fast replies! Thanks!

I will try out these methods tonight!

The IRMaster program is so new it's still warm!

Robman, thanks for going the extra step and generating the file for me.

I am looking at the .hex file, and I see each function number. How do I match the OBC with each function number?
Do I use my device.txt file generated by Keymap-Master?

Thanks agin folks, you guys and gals are awesome here!

Also I just noticed the line in the .txt file states :

Devices:,NEC1,0,189,,,,,,,,,,
Manual:,,0 = 1-byte,LSB-COMP,88,NO,,,,,,,,

Is it device 0 or 189? or both?

Thanks again!

I assume the "TXT" file you are referring to is a KM file. Use KM or RM to open and read the file.

Or provide a link to the file, so we can take a look.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

It's device code 0, sub-device 189. The bext way to view a KM file is using either the KM spreadsheet or the RM program.

The file I originally created uses device code 189 (with no sub-device) as that's what you stated in your original post. I just replaced the file with a 0.189 version.

OBC = function code

So I opened my .txt file in keymap-master and found that the OBC for power is 1.
I copied the section, for function 1 from the MakeHex output sent to me by Robman into, IREdit and tried it with no luck. I also tried the Channel up and down functions, and had no results there either. IREdit accepted the codes, but they don't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

Here is the Keymap-master .txt file for the TV that I assembled a year ago from the captured data from my Kameleon:

I got it working!

Either I did not have the IR transmitter alligned correctly or I had not sent the IR file to the controller before testing.

Thank you very much for your help! This piece has been missing from my automation system, and now I can create some very nice control macro's on my AMX system.

Thanks again... you people are the best!

Yes you may have noticed I removed your KM listing and replaced it with a link to your KM file in the file section. Its a lot easier for us to work with a file than with a listing from a post.

Also while you are at it, check to make sure we have files for all your equipment. If you don't find one, create an upgrade and submit it, even if you don't NEED the upgrade. That way we can help other people and you might find yourself benefiting from it in the future.

I never thought about creating upgrades for my equipment that was built into the remote. Then one day I went down to use my exercise room DVD Player and found the batteries ruptured and the OEM remote turned into a useless paperweight. There were no built-in upgrade in my old 7800, nor any files in the upgrade area. I was out of luck. Since I was hanging out here regularly I really felt like a dolt.

So those are my suggestions to everybody. Back up your OEM remotes in our file section. You will help the JP1 community, and you may even end up helping yourself!

Thanks, I will as soon as I have all of the buttons mapped. It looks like I might have left a few off.

The danger with that strategy is that you could forgot and we'll never see the upgrade. A better idea is to load what you have now, then come back later and replace the file with a better version if you like.

Oh yeah, when you posted your year-old KM listing in the thread I converted it and submitted it so that we would have a file in the file section. We didn't have an AOC Envision upgrade before, although we had an Acer AOC that used a similar upgrade. Its always easier if we have a match in the file section.

I have to say thanks again to you...
You guys really are willing and able to help.
When I get me Kameleon connected back up to my computer, I will post some more "upgrades" as a return contribution.

Thanks to everyone that helps out on this site!
