Astak CM-818T3 wireless security camera

Post by FrozT »

Hi All,

I think the topic says it all. I have a Logitech Harmony 880 and I read somewhere that I could download the codes from it. My goal is to be able to produce a .BIN file for my Slingbox and I have it learned on my Harmony. I've tried connecting it to USB and using IR.exe but it doesn't see it, obviously it requires some special driver or something....

Also I have a couple other IR receivers, one is an on-board Intel A.K.A. Windbond CIR controller and the other one is from a Hauppauge TV Tuner, not sure if either of those could be used with IRSCOPE.EXE to get the code but I've had no luck either way because the default drivers do not have virtual COM ports.

I am using Windows 7 32-bit in all cases, and it seems like I need some kind of driver hack to accomplish my goals. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

P.S. The device I'm trying to learn codes for is an Astak Wireless Camera Receiver (baby cam.) If someone knew of some other potentially compatible manufacturers that I could try that would be great.

Harmony remotes are made by Logitech, not UEI, so there's no way you can communicate with them using a JP1 cable.

There are people here who use their Harmony as a source for signal data for the purpose of creating Slingbox BIN files, but they don't download from the Harmony. What they do is capture the signals from the harmony using either a JP1 learning remote or an IR Widget, then they use the JP1 software to download from the JP1 remote or Widget. This gives them the code data that they need to create the BIN file.

Any chance of doing this with my Winbod CIR or Hauppauge IR?

Any chance of doing what, exactly? What are your goals? If you simply want to add a BIN to your Slingbox to control a specific device, you should just tell us what the device is and we'll see if we've got a file for you.

Bottom line, you can only use JP1 with a JP1 compatible remote that is made by UEI or with a Slingbox like device where the remote control chip is made by UEI.

I believe my original post sufficiently answers both of those questions.

(To elaborate, it's an Astak CM-818T3 but that manufacturer is not listed on your site anywhere, so I was wondering if there was another manufacturer I could use in lue because it looks like a cheap home automation remote http://www.astak.com/product.asp?serial=CM-818T3 .)

I've already ordered a USB IR Widget. I should be able to learn the code with that device when it arrives and then figure out how to produce a .BIN file from there but I'm still interested if anyone knows of a compatible manufacturer that I could use codes from for my Astak device.

Cheers

Let me see if I can summarise your post for you using the code search template.
(Please understand that experts skim through long posts so we often miss details that are buried within, hence the need for a template).
1. Device: Astak CM-818T3 (baby cam.)
2. Type of device: wireless security camera
3. Year: current
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Slingbox (PL model)
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? no
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes
9. Partially working setup code? no
10. Learning remote question? n/a
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool? yes
I will also move this thread to the Slingbox forum where we have a user who owns a Harmony and regularly uses it to create BIN files for people.

That will be me :)

Happy to help if FrozT can tell me how to put the device on my Harmony, as their Device listing doesn't include security cameras.

@alanrichey,

I appreciate the response but I'm not sure how to go about it because these commands were learned. I don't suppose there is any way to upload them to you that you know of?

Yes, I keep a Harmony account for just that purpose. User name: sling boxes and password: password

Don't worry about being forced to change the remote (I have a 659)

You may have to repeat the learning procedure to get it in there.

Excellent! OK I have uploaded the new device to you. As you mentioned there is no category for a Video Cam Receiver so I just picked Monitor at random. There are only 4 buttons of consequence, '1,2,3,4'. Those allow me to change to Camera 1,2,3,4 respectively. There are no other buttons required to operate the system and there is no power button.

I appreciate any assistance you can offer me greatly!

Thank you.

Are there any other buttons (even if you don't think you need them)? If there are, please include them too because we will create an upgrade using the information that we get from your learns and the next person might need the extra buttons.

Bang on! Worked right away, thank you so much.

There are 4 other buttons on the remote, 1 for cycling through the cams, 1 for stopping/resuming cycling, and +- buttons for incrementing decrementing camera numbers but I find I only ever use the 4 numbers. I will gladly upload the remaining 4 buttons if it will be helpful for you guys. I just need to find a CR2025 battery for the original remote because it's dead right now (I used a different learning remote to upload the 4 codes I had)

Thanks again, this is great.

@alanrichy:

OK, I've uploaded the other 4 buttons as directional buttons on the logitech cloud. Up/Down = +/- channel for camera. Left = Start Cycle channels, Right = Pause/Resume Cycle.

Thanks again. I hope down the road this helps someone else.
