To assign the 10178 setup code:
1) Press TV
2) Press and hold FFWD and REQ together, 2 flashes
3) Enter 10178, 2 flashes

Then, to assign 00018 to the REPLAY button:
1) Press TV
2) Press and hold FFWD and REQ together, 2 flashes
3) Enter 994, 2 flashes
4) Press and FFWD and REQ together briefly
5) Enter 00018
6) Press REPLAY, 2 flashes (no flashes, not accepted)

Then, to assign 00018 to the SKIP button:
1) Press TV
2) Press and hold FFWD and REQ together, 2 flashes
3) Enter 994, 2 flashes
4) Press and FFWD and REQ together briefly
5) Enter 19 2 flashes
6) Press SKIP, 2 flashes (no flashes, not accepted)

Turn your speakers' volume to half of MAX and turn the TONE to MAX (if any). If you have small speakers, it's better to turn up the volume more.
Press any device key (for example 'TV'). Then press and hold down the 'REWIND' and 'FASTFORWARD' keys simultaneously until the red LED double blinks. Then press the 'POWER' key to prepare the remote control for the upgrade by entering its upgrade state mode. The red LED will stay on.
Place the remote control on the face of the speaker. The remote should face you. It is recommended that the your remote control's back touches the speaker. Make sure the 'Energy Saver key' is at the same height as your speaker.
Did this.

Once the upgrade is loaded, you would then assign setup code 12000 (ie, TV/2000) to the TV device button. Then the REW/FFWD/STOP buttons would be available as the USB hack buttons.

Typed in 12000 for two flashes. Mentioned buttons don't work

It's worth noting that the reason it tells you to place the remote in such a particular way is because the transfer is magnetic from the coil of your speaker to the coil in your remote (unless there's something different in these newer remotes, that is).

All the stuff about 10178 was irrelevant to this process, I hope you know that. Anyway, if you got 2 flashes for 12000 that means that the upgrade was accepted, which is a good start. Do any of the buttons do anything at this point? The upgrade should allow you to do all the normal operations on your TV, like changing the channel or volume, etc. If those functions work but the hack buttons do not, then it's possible that your TV does not support the hack (did you mention your TV model number yet?) or you're not doing the hack properly.

Assuming the rest of the buttons work for your TV, please state the model number of your TV so we can look it up. Then please state what hack steps you were following.

In case it isn't clear, Rob wants you to check the ordinary TV buttons when the remote is in a mode using setup code 12000, and not while it is using 10178. Of course we expect that 10178 will control the TV; but for the moment we want to know if 12000 will control the TV. If it does, that means the WAV file was accepted and understood.

If 12000 doesn't control TV functions like Vol UP, then we need to fix that before worrying about the hack.

12000 didn't actually get two flashes...kind of a long pause but the volume etc work and I can control the TV.

My TV is LG 32LD320.

@3FG The steps I took are in the top post of this page. Would I be better getting a new remote i.e URC-3940? Does this work ok?

If 12000 didn't get 2 flashes, it's possible that it didn't take and the fact that various keys work, is because the remote is still using the previous 10178 setup code. Seems like there should be a blink-back to see what actual setup code is in use.

Yes the URC-3940 will work. This thread shows that it accepts the 994 keymove commands, and we know that it has 10178 setup code.

However, in the post you mentioned as being at "the top of this page", you say "Typed in 12000 for two flashes." Unless that statement was in error, 12000 was accepted at one time. So, I wonder if it is worthwhile making a couple of more attempts to load the WAV file, and to assign 12000.

To test if 12000 has been accepted, do this in two steps.
1) Assign setup code 10037, which is a Philips TV code. Priove to yourself that this setup code doesn't control the TV.
2) Assign 12000. We want to see 2 blinks. And, if 12000 hasn't been accepted, the remote won't control the TV.

So the upgrade didn't load, which means we need to focus on the steps that you took to load the upgrade and what response you got from the remote for each step.

Please keep in mind that "it didn't work" is a useless statement for us, we need more precise info.

I tried this and the 12000 code wasn't accepted after using the Philips code. I will try and load the file again. If it fails I'll buy the other remote.

The statement was in error saying I got two flashes. I just got a pause.

Hello

Can anyone help me get into the lg hidden menu on a lw650t?

I have tried a one for all urc - 8305 and a logitech harmony 300i remote.

I have tried both but have had no luck.

I cant find any info on if these two remotes are suitable or not.

The urc-8305 is suitable but I don't know that the lw650t is suitable. There used to be a wiki with all sorts of dire warnings about not using this on a TV that wasn't approved, but the wiki seems to be gone.

Apparently this is a dangerous hack and can kill some tv's.

Here at this forum, we know how to make the remote do the tricks, but we are not experts in the hack itself.

from what I've read on avforums the hack is safe on the lw series to activate a couple of features.
i have tried the instructions on the this website but the urc-8305 failed to work

and it looks like the harmony 300i doesn't accept the code programming of buttons unless im doing something wrong.

That russian site you pointed to, doesn't have the complete instructions that used to be in the wiki that it was copied from.

Its important that you assign a setup code that supports the hack, and your remote uses 5 digit efcs.

You must first set the TV to setup code 0178 before you can send the 5 digit EFCs.

I purchased a lg 42lv5500 and am trying to get into the service menu. I purchased a rca rcrpo5b. I went to the look up tool and found 1993 NEC 4DEV Combo. Is this the code I want to use for my remote to be able to access the service menu? I entered the code into the remote it took it fine but i cant figure out how to send the efc's. This is what I tried 1.Press the device key (TV, VCR, SAT, CD, AUD or DVD).
2.Press and hold the MAGIC key until the device keys blinks twice (the device key will blink once then twice).
3.Press 9 9 4. The device key will blink twice.
4.Press the MAGIC key once.
5.Enter the 3-digit (or 5-digit) EFC code (see above)
6.Press the key to which the function will be assigned. The device key will blink twice.

I used the favorites key seemed to take 00018 but when i press the fav key it doesn't do anything to the tv. Total noob sorry all whip me if ya want but please help me out here.
