Creating IR signals to unlock USB port on LG TVs

A) To clarify a little, using either of your remotes, please do the following:

1) Press and release the TV device button (ie, the one programmed with 0178)
2) Press and release the MAGIC button
3) Type 00183 (and hold the '3' button down)

Does the TV's volume increase?

B) Next, try these instructions (from page 18 of the URC-8308 manual and page 23 of the URC-8204 manual)

1) Press and HOLD the MAGIC button (screen becomes SETUP screen)
2) Press KEY MAGIC
3) Press the TV device button
4) Press the MAGIC key once
5) Enter 00183
6) Press the button to be programmed - 2 blinks *

* eg, one of the I,II,III,IV buttons on the URC-8308 or the A, B, C buttons on the URC-8204

Once programmed, does the button selected in step 6 work? It should increase the volume.

If either (A) or (B) worked above for the volume+ code (00183), you should be able to use that same method to program EZ_Adjust (00018) and IN_Start (00019).

Hi im new to this, i need help in enable DIVX playback on my LG 32LD450 tv. I have an all in one remote URC-7140 and when i enter EFC 00018 or 00019 it then asks for a four digit password can anyone help

Hi, and welcome.

All we can really help with here, with regards to the "hack", is making your remote control send the right signal - and it looks like you've already achieved that on your own...

I'm guessing you already tried the obvious default passwords like "0000" and "1234" ?

Apart from that, I'm afraid Google might have to be your solution -
we have no specific knowledge of how the "hack" works, its possible inherent risks to your TV (like potentially "bricking" it), or passwords, I'm afraid.

(unless, of course, you're very lucky, and someone here has seen a specific solution for your particular model)

Now that you have your URC-7140, this thread indicates that you might be able to help us in the meantime, and join in the fun here by telling us about your remote

It seems we might not have much information about this model - so if you wanted to help us find out about it, that would be really great, and in the process you would almost certainly discover that your remote can do far more for you than you imagined...

Initially, just the information about whether it has a 6 pin connector in the battery compartment would be very useful, if you could just spare a very few seconds to glance at that for us.

I'm sure we might also have lots of other questions after that...

Yes the OFO remote URC-7140 does have the six pin JP connection.
I have tried 0000,1423, i also found a site that said try 8741 which is the letter L on the remote. When i enter that number it keeps going back to the start to enter the number again.So i'm not to sure if LG have put in the password, other people have enabled this tv so is there something i'm doing wrong.

I don't know where you found 1423?

The only other possible alternative I can find, which I have found on more than one Google search, is 0413, which I mentioned in my earlier post, and you don't say you've tried.

looks like it might possibly be a better place than this to find people with experience of this "hack" - as you've already done the remote control part with which we would generally be best placed to help.

Of course, you've still got the alternative of buying a media player like WDTV or a cheap "clone" to watch your DivX movies from USB storage, if you can't do this "hack" in the end.
That's not too expensive, has no risk to your TV, and I actually find it a better solution, in many ways.

Remember that, if you do succeed in activating this "Service Menu", anything you do in there is entirely at your own risk, and unsupported.
If you make a mistake, like entering some incorrect digits etc..., you could, worst case, possibly even end up with a TV set you cannot use at all...

It was 0413 i just miss typed when i posted my question.i have now enabled divx on my 32LD450 tv. I just had to use the original remote to input the password which was 0413. Just need to find a good program to copy my dvd collection to divx or xvid to put on my portable hard drive

Ah, yes, I assumed you were doing it that way all along - just using the OFA to emit the control codes...

If your OFA remote was only set up to emit the control codes you needed, and not correctly set up to control the TV in general, then that makes perfect sense, as it would not have been sending the correct digit signals for the "password".

Incidentally, if you want to set up your OFA remote to control this TV correctly, you can do so with keymoves on the working setup code you used for the "hack", following the instructions from the wiki, at this link...

As far as I know the Philips remote is not a UEI remote. The most common UEI remotes are those that come with cable company devices.
Here is the Chart of Remotes that shows JP1 remotes. Many UEI remote that are not capable of being JP1 remotes can work to do this hack as well. The remote has to be able to do EFC-style keymoves to accomplish the hack.

That answer also applies to you.

  According to the manual it does keymoves (calls them "Key Magic") and Macros
  Contains TV/0178 code which will work for the hack
