Hi

The best way to use the resources here is to start by reading this:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.php?title=JP1_-_Just_How_Easy_Is_It%3F_-_RM-IR_Version

and this:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49

There's a chart here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=5515 which shows the capabilities of the various JP1 remote controls. Some of the older ones are not manufactured any more, but can still be obtained either in the Market Place Forum here, or from online sources such as eBay. You may also find some of the newer items available from your local retailers, the chart is then useful for seeing what those models can do. Looking around the Market Place forum also gives you a good idea which models of remote are around.

If you give an idea where you are based, it would be easier for someone to tell you which models you might easily get hold of - but you also need to give some thought as to whether you would want the remote just for this device, or to use as a true Universal remote, controlling all your devices, since that would influence which model you might want to get hold of.

To fully exploit JP1 remotes, you'd also need an interface cable to program it - and the best place to get hold of that is here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9405 (for the older style remotes you'd need the cable and the small JP1 adapter - the newer ones, known as JP1.x, don't need the adapter). You can do some customisation without a cable, but if you need to add support for a specific device to a remote, or do advanced programming, then a cable is required. Cables are so cheap that it just makes sense to get one if you get a JP1 compatible remote...

There are lots of Yamaha upgrades found by searching the File section here that may work, for instance, this one: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1780
which is for a Yamaha RX-V2500 Receiver, and may well work for yours.

Once you've read through the linked material, please post back with any specific questions you still have about parts of it you didn't understand.

Very Happy
