The NEC1 talk is just talk. The box in that thread also responds to the Aiwa protocol. The user confirmed that the posted pronto hex works and that hex is Aiwa.
Just FYI, the protocol that we call Aiwa is just an extended version of the NEC protocol. Aiwa is extended NEC1 and Aiwa2 is extended NEC2. _________________ Rob

OK. Thanks Rob. I suppose, then, that he confirmed the built in code worked and didn't need repeats. I wonder if he's using any kind of extender. I don't think so.
Using your repeats, 5-7, the Sangean box responds, but I get a chance once or twice a day ... huh ??? Any more, and it's just stuck. Hours later it works again. I'm baffled. _________________ Liz

I think the Sangean box is loony |
That might be the case, or it may just be really picky. Does it react better to its own remote?
If so we could tweak the frequency and that one lead in time, but if it doesn't react better to the OEM signal, there is no point to that exercise. | Do nothing yet. OEM remote is actually not as good as Rob's tweak. But nothing is good yet. And I haven't found a clear pattern. _________________ Liz

Could you try re-wording that as I have no idea what you're saying.
If you need more, or less, repeats, I can tweak it to make it so. _________________ Rob

First turn-on of the day and a preset selection works from a macro.
Many subsequent changes of anything - no response, even without a macro.
Then, few hours later it's willing to respond. Totally weird.
At this point, Rob, no need to change. I can change that one byte with the repeats count, and can see in the Widget that it's working. _________________ Liz

Elizabeth, since the response gets worse with the OEM remote, it sounds like a problem with the Sangean Receiver.

Actually this sounds a lot like problems that I've had with receivers that download program guides, and software updates, and gets stuck.
I'd recommend that you unplug the Sangean receiver for 10 minutes or so. Make sure that no buttons on the receiver are stuck. Plug the receiver back in and see if it behaves better.
I'd also recommend looking in the Sangean manual for trouble shooting tips _________________ Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

| I have an HDT-1X that I got shortly before I moved a few months ago, but I have not had time to set it up in the new house yet, so I don't know if this is a common problem or just your unit. If I can find time this weekend, I will try to set it up somewhere and see if it exhibits similar problems.
BTW Vicky, the unit does not do any sort of guide download or update. It is just a (very good) HD/FM tuner. _________________ Mike England |

Mike, if you do play with your HD-1x, could you play with the extended 6131? You can just use my old file for starters

Rob,
Sure is a heap of references. I actually got my box through Master Theseus, but it was in some other thread. They had a special deal. I don't know my user name there anymore, was 3 yrs ago. It's a very good receiver. My problems started mainly with the attempts to put into 613ext macros.
Somebody in a Amazon review said the remote uses 2-AA batteries. Not here. It's a very tiny, thin remote. Just for the record:

From http://www.ham-radio.com/k6sti/hdt-1x.htm
Quote: | The HDT-1X keyboard scan rate has been lowered so much that rapid keypresses are lost. This is very annoying when tuning manually, entering frequency digits, or even setting the clock. According to Sangean, the problem is due to an updated iBiquity software development kit. |
Hmmm, I wonder if this is related. But still doesn't explain why even slow manual keypresses might be not recognized.
I also agree with these bugs/features described on
http://www.ham-radio.com/k6sti/hdt-1x.txt
Quote: | 5. It should not be necessary to press PRESET to recall a frequency. Any press
of a digit shorter than 2 seconds should call up the station. [0.2]
6. The distinction between a memory being empty (press 2 seconds to store) or
full (5 seconds to overwrite) is unnecessary. The memories will eventually all
fill. Just store the memory after 2 seconds, overwriting whatever's there, and
be done with it. [0.2] |
One reason I need macros is, besides power etc, to recall a preset by doing "Select/ok",number.
My HD-1X version is v02-070612 something is Beta1

Has anyone figured out if you can upgrade the firmware on these units? _________________ Rob

I googled a bit. Nothing so far.
There are no USB or any connectors in the back that I can see. Nothing on the front. Nothing on the sides.
Hey, maybe by IR from a jp1 remote
Edited later:
Other people also ask about upgrade
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-1132083.html
but no answers here.
As of Nov2007 and ,more recently, Feb2010 - upgradable but only by Sangean - see posts #664 and 673

I did play around a bit with my HDT-1X, and I do see similar behavior, even when selecting a preset with the buttons on the front panel. It feels like the firmware gets "busy" while trying to tune in a station, and it just does not respond to any commands until it is finished. It seems to take about 2 or 3 seconds on average. It also seems to do the same thing when you first turn the unit on.
I would conclude that this is not a problem with the IR repeats. You just may have to insert a long pause between the power command and the preset command.
I think you got ripped off with the remote! The original HDT-1 came with the tiny thin "credit card" size remote. The HDT-1X came with a much nicer real remote. _________________ Mike England |

I wrote Sangean with questions. Must have gone to the bit bucket. No response.
Mike, many, many thanks for your observations.
So, besides the inferior remote, we have a receiver where their IR is goofy.
Since my initial posts I tried something else.
I plugged in the Sangean box into the receiver. So that when the receiver comes on, Sangean box is supposed to turn on as well. It does. But only to the clock. I don't need their clock. I know the time.
Then from 6131 or their remote I need to press POWER. Then HDRadio comes up, the rest follows. I once coded a macro with Power, Power, Power in it. That seemed to work somewhat better.
I kinda think the macros are doomed. I will test the long pause inside a macro. It'll need long pauses other places as well. Funny thing is, for 3 years I haven't done the macros because the initial attempts failed. My husband was using it primarily, and I didn't care when he complained the OEM remote didn't work! He often complained remotes don't work, so I ignored it all.
I have no problem with the presets from the front panel. Seem to respond well.
I'll post back if I find anything more interesting happens. Thanks very much again, Mike. _________________ Liz
