:D! I'll give the following a try tomorrow:
Dear Mr Muzer,

Thank you for your e-mail,

The code that we have found for your Kenmark device are:

TV 2043
DVD 2249

However, as the necessary software is not in the memory of your One for All handset, this cannot be set up straight away. It needs to be downloaded first. Therefore, please call the Customer Services Helpline on 0808 1000 306 and ask for the download of the codes mentioned above. If you have had any codes downloaded into your One For All before, please make sure to mention these aswell. Please note that it is preferable to call us from a cord-connected, land-line telephone for best results. The upgrade has a limited success with a mobile or a cordless phone. We are open Monday to Friday 1.00p.m. to 7.00p.m. and Saturday 9.00am. to 3.00p.m (UK time).

If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

Andrea Piscitello

Right - everything I care about on the TV side now works, but for the built-in DVD player, I still can't get into its setup menu. At least I can use the DVD menu now, however. Is there anything I can do from here?

I take it you mean that the other buttons for the DVD player work but Setup menu does not. That means they have the right setup code for the DVD player but it is missing this one function.

Since we don't know about your Kenmark equipment, I suggest you e-mail them again and ask them if they can give you the KeyMagic code for that button. That is what we call the EFC (Extended Function Code) but you had better not use that term to them  . If there are other functions which are missing that you would like, ask them for those KeyMagic codes, too. I got a lot of KeyMagic codes from them way back in 2000, as I wanted ALL functions to work from the OfA remote, not just the common ones. They were very patient and helpful. I think you can take their "If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again" at face value. It is seeming as if they are just as good now as they were ten years ago.

Right, I've sent them an e-mail requesting the KeyMagic code for that button. Yes, the rest of the DVD functions work perfectly. I am overall very impressed with OFA so far.

In fact, I seem to remember something along the lines of Extended Function Code actually being used in the manual... I'll go and check that to make sure I'm not seeing things ;)

They have sent me the keymagic code, but they also said that if I have chipset version R00 or R01, it won't work. I have R01, and indeed, it doesn't appear to work.

Is there a way to work around this? They've offered to replace the remote, but only with an inferior non-LCD model that isn't worth nearly as much.

Well, that rang a bell. This issue has been seen before with 8308 remote (which likely uses the identical firmware as the 8305). It looks like we may have the capability to get the necessary upgrades into the remote.

This thread has some useful info. It also has some extraneous back and forth between Capn Trips and me, in which I use incorrect terminology and he apparently doesn't realize that the OP needs to use modem upgrades. Just ignore that.

I don't have time to look at this issue right now, but I think we can contruct an upgrade (or a series of upgrades) to make this work. Or, using the last post, by loading one upgrade, it may be possible to make keymoves work.

Right. Can someone point me to something that will walk me through sending this:

Unfortunately I think you have a problem, a big one. A modem upgrade overwrites any existing upgrade, which is why OfA said that when you telephoned for your upgrade from them, you had to mention if you already had an upgrade in your remote. If you had a USB lead there would be no problem, but without one there is no way of downloading the upgrade that OfA has put there so that this one could be added to it and the whole lot re-uploaded.

Do think about buying an interface lead from Tommy Tyler. Not from anyone else - his are by far and away the best, and though he is in the US you will get it in just a few days. It's $39 including shipping costs but is money well spent and will enable you to get the maximum use out of your remote. As I am sure you realise by now, there are many people here to help you once you have your lead. And it's great fun, too! :D

Yes, I see now that OFA directly upgraded over the phone rather than sending Muzer a WAV file. We need the WAV file (or other knowledge of the details of TV 2043 and DVD 2249) in order to make a useful combined upgrade.

When you loaded the modem upgrades, did they send you a WAV file that you could play through your PC speakers, or was it done over the phone?

If it was a WAV file, then you'll be able to re-load the upgrade after you use the upgrade above to fix the keymove feature. If it was done over the phone, you would need to call them back and get the upgrade again, are you willing to do that?

Unfortunately, it was over the phone. Hmm... this is rather annoying.

Where is the cable socket? This remote doesn't have a traditional battery case, just a sort of tube that you can take one end off.

Do not use the patch as it is not for your remote(URC-8305). It is for the URC-8308R01 with signature 11421142.

Don't look it that way, here's how you should look at it. The remote that you bought has a known bug, but we have a way of actually fixing that bug so that your B01 version remote will function just as well as the B00 version, which I think is pretty amazing.

The only drawback being that you will need to re-load the modem upgrades. I have an inquiry into UEI to see if I can get the code data in order to re-create the upgrades for you.

Muzer,
Would you mind trying to blink back the signature of your remote? Also, how do you know that you have a R01 version?

I guess that for the Kameleon, you can blink back the signature by extrapolation of the 990 setup code blink back.

Magic for 3 seconds, select Other, enter 983, count the blinks when pressing buttons 1 through 4.

Probable numbers are 1122 and 1143.

This thread discribes how to get access to the 6 pin connector. Frankly it doesn't look easy.

I want to echo what Binky said.
DO NOT USE THAT UPGRADE ON YOUR REMOTE.
That is a remote specific fix.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.
