Modem upgrades with URC-8305 B01 Kameleon (UK)

Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't seem to get the forum search to work properly.

Is it possible to convert the files on this site that are designed for use with a cable to some form of audio file that I can then use to upgrade my modem-compatible remote? I have a Kenmark LVD162 for which I have lost the remote, and I bought this mostly to control it - but it is not actually compatible, I've tried a full search, and I've checked the One for All website, and Kenmark isn't even listed.

If not, the box says "guaranteed to work with all brands" - since it doesn't work with mine, am I entitled to a refund? Is it worth it calling support? Or is this just another piece of marketing crap that doesn't actually mean anything, and so I've just blown £40?

All the files on this site can easily be converted to wav upgrades using the IR and RM or KM programs from this site. Check out the beginner threads and download the programs.

Oh, wow - fantastic. I only read the FAQs, it isn't mentioned at all in any of those that I read.

I just did a search of the file section and didn't find any files for Kenmark. Next, I tried the lookup tool, which lists all the brands found in OFA manuals, and didn't see anything there either. So, while it is possible to load upgrades into a modem-equipped remote, as we don't have an upgrade for you, that's not going to help you much.

Maybe your next move should be to call OFA and ask them if they have an upgrade that they can load over the phone.

But have you tried all the Philips TV codes?

Have you done a 991 code search?

Do I take it, from the £ sign, that you are in the UK? I understand that the OneForAll companies in Europe and the US are now separate. My experience is only with the European one, and dates back to the year 2000, but at that time their claim was most certainly NOT marketing crap. I bought an OfA remote that turned out not to be able to control my Kenwood AV Receiver. They put an enormous amount of effort into sorting this out for me, including a free upgrade to a better remote. I finished up writing to them to say "What a wonderful company you are - you have persisted beyond my wildest expectations to solve my problem."

I don't know if they are still as helpful. All I can say is that ten years ago they behaved superbly. If you do deal with them over your problem, I would be interested to hear your experience. And if you are in the UK (as I am) I am interested to know what remote you have bought.

Yes, I am in the UK.

I thought I'd found it last night, but it turned out to be something completely different - my brain was certainly not at its best

I've tried searching through the standard method (the built-in search feature) - is the 991 search any different? No codes turned off the power when I did the search.

I'll try giving them a call, and see what I can find.

Muzer, it's hard for us to give you specific instructions for your remote because you have neglected to tell us which remote you have. The 991 command is for non-LCD remotes, so if you have a remote with an LCD screen, the instructions will be different.

The 991 was the equivalent of what you did when you

1. Switch ON your Television (not on standby).
2. Press and hold the MAGIC key for about 3 seconds.
The screen will change to the setup screen.
3. Press SEARCH.
4. Press and release the TV key to select the device type you
like to setup.
5. Next, press POWER.
6. Point the KAMELEON 5 at your Television. Now press
NEXT over and over, until your Television turns off
(every time you press the NEXT key the KAMELEON 5 will
send out a POWER signal from the next code contained in
the memory). You may have to press NEXT many times
(up to 150 times) so please be patient. Remember to
keep pointing the KAMELEON 5 at your Television
while pressing this key. (If you skip past a code, you can
go to the previous code(s) by pressing the PREVIOUS key).

The Kenmark LVD 160 uses the Philips code, but I couldn't find anything specific for the LVD 162.

Could you retry TV 0556, TV 0037, TV 0721 and TV 1506, and see if any of the keys work on your KenMark?

I've done the scan, yes. I'll just try the codes now. EDIT: Nope, just tried all 4, and neither power, menu nor mute worked (the 3 buttons on the code entry screen).

@The Robman: WTF? Damn, that sucks - I read online that the RRP was £50, and the shops in the area I was looking (Tottenham Court Road in London, though I don't live in London, I was just there for a day) didn't have it any cheaper than £40 (I saw one selling it for £80!)

Just in case you're thinking a harmony might solve your problem, it won't. Your Kenmark isn't in their database either.

Sometimes I've had to resort to finding my equipment on display at a local shop and learning what I need from their remote. If anyone asks what I'm doing (they usually don't) I just explain my predicament and they usually let me continue. You can learn a whole device in a minute or two with a little practice.

I could pop back to Comet (where I bought it) and see if they still have them... somehow I doubt it, though. It's a great little TV for relatively cheap that does most things you would ever want it to do, just it's pretty unheard of.

Just giving a quick update:

I've e-mailed OFA, and they told me my exact model isn't in the database, but they requested I send them a photo of the original remote from the manual so they can cross-reference it with their database of similar models. I have now done this, and am awaiting the next reply. I'm impressed so far with the speed and helpfulness (I kind of expected an "it's not supported - tough luck" response).
