JP1 Forum Help Request
Non JP1 user

I have:
Remote: Comcast DVR-3 (grey button) (URC-1067 I think)
Device to be controlled: Roku N1101 Digital Video Player
File: Roku.rmdu (Device Upgrades / Misc / Roku Netflix N1000)

Do not have:
JP1 (JP1.1) cable
Learning remote

Desired result:

Have the Comcast remote's AUX device
send Roku remote functions:
Home
Up
Down
Left
Right
Select
Play/Pause
FF
Rew

Hoping for a button programming solution.

Considered a JP1 cable, but RemoteChart.xls identifies my remote as JP1.1
and all I find Tommy selling are JP1 and JP1.2/3.

Will download and use RM if required to merge Roku.rmdu into my Comcast remote.

Will reconsider cable if experts identify the correct cable to buy from Tommy.

Will consider purchasing Tommy's IR receiver if the Roku.rmdu file is not sufficient.

Grateful, regardless for your consideration.

Let's find out exactly what remote you have.

Use the 983 signature blink back command. Instructions
If it is a 1067 grey button, I expect the signature will be 1009.
If it a 1058, then the signature is probably 0103.

The 1067 is a JP1.2 remote and can be programmed with a 1.2/1.3 cable. And that will be necessary, because no Comcast remote has the NEC2 (or NEC1) IR protocol with device 190.239, so we can't just manually program it.

Or you could buy a RCA RCRP05B (on sale at Walgreens for $9) or the OneForAll URC-8820N (<$20 at Sears) Cable 2371 is an exact setup code for your Roku.

The signature is 1009, confirming I have a 1067.

Thank you for clarifying / correcting the JP1.2 capability of my remote.

I will order Tommy's JP1.2/3 cable to apply the files I have.

But, since 2 RCAs (mine & wife's) are still less than the cable,
perhaps I stop at Walgreen's tomorrow.

I'm presuming my Comcast/Moto DVR and Vizio TV will be good to go in these new remotes since they were already OK in my 3 year old 1067.

Thanks!

Yes the Vizio uses TV 1758, and the Moto boxes use Cable 0476, 1376 or 2378.
The Vizio TV, depending on the model, may respond to discrete codes, like Power On or Power Off, or discrete inputs. Those can added manually to the RCRP05B.

By all means go to Walgreens to get an RCA remote in order to get it's learning ability, but please don't use the cost as justification for NOT getting a JP1 cable because the value of the JP1 process cannot simply be measured in dollars.

Once you have a cable, you will have the ability to make your remotes control any device that you like, and control every feature of those devices too. Plus, if you get a learning remote like the RCA, you will also have the ability to capture the signals from any new device that you might buy in the future, so even if there isn't already an upgrade file for the new device here, you will have the ability to make a new upgrade yourself.

PC programmable remotes typically cost several hundred dollars.

News pending:

Roku has introduced three new models of the video box, two of which are shipping with a new remote with three new buttons: back, instant replay and options. It appears the new remote will work both the new and old boxes, and that the software on all the boxes is the same. So we should be able to upgrade the upgrade to add the new functions once someone can learn the buttons and post them.

There is an upgrade for the new 12 button Roku remote that has been uploaded here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=9048

The 12 button remote uses a different device code altogether (234.194), but all the boxes seem to respond to either the old 9 button remote code or the 12 button remote code, and to the three new buttons, so the new upgrade becomes the standard, rather than the two older ones posted before.
