I have seen instructions on how to set up the skip for the Motorola DCX 3400 using the AUX function key. With my previous box I could designate this function to any key I wanted and used the fav key. Can this be done on the new box, and if so, how is it done.
Thank you.

What is the manufacturer and model number of the "new box"? Also what setup code are you using for Cable? Also, please use the 990 command to blink back the Cable setup code. 9XX Command Instructions

00173 worked on my old cable box but not on the new one. These are instructions I fould on another forum but I do not want to set it up to by AUX key (used the FAV previously).1) Select Aux
2) Hold setup 2 flashes
3) type 01376 2 flashes
1) Select Aux button
2) Hold SETUP, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap SETUP
4) Enter the 00173
5) Tap the button to be programmed, 2 flashes

4) Tap SETUP

Use the 9XX instructions linked above to unlock the cable device (use 982). That will let you temporarily assign setup code 01376 to cable. Then assign 00173 to Fav while in Cable mode--press Cable instead of AUX at step 1.
Next, re-assign setup code 01982 to Cable. (It would be better if you do what I asked in my previous post, and blink back the Cable setup code before starting this procedure to confirm that the 3400 is using 01982.)
If you want, you can re-lock the Cable device with the 982 command.

Here's a more detailed set of instructions to assign the 30 second skip to the Fav key.
Press Cable
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 982
The remote should blink 4 times
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 01376
The remote should blink 2 times.
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 994 (should blink 2 times)
Press Setup briefly
Enter 00173
Press Fav
The remote should blink 2 times
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 01982
The remote should blink 2 times.
Now the Fav key should give you the 30 second skip.
Not necessary but you can re-lock the Cable device:
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 982
The remote should blink 2 times.

Dave, I may be wrong, but I don't think you can program to the FAV key manually. The Fav key is usually a restricted key.
Edit, I find that the remote on my desk took a EFC to the FAV key manually, so I take that back. Sometimes the FAV button is restricted. Which remote are we looking at?

Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.
