Hi,
I Am only new here but was Google-ing (however one would spell that) away and stumbled across this forum and thought this might be a good place to ask this question so here goes...
I have a SlingBox Pro-HD located in RI, USA which is getting its source from Cox Cable box DVR, it is a Motorola DCH 6416 or something.
I Have the Cox remote the silver one. I am located in Sydney Australia and am watching my picture through a SlingCatcher.
My Question is I want to be able to use my COX remote in replacement of the SlingCatcher one as the Sling one is a POS. Does anyone know if this is possible? and if so how would one go about doing it?
I have noticed in the COX brochure i can program things but i need some 4 or 5 digit number which i cant find but at the same time i don't know if this would help me much.
Thanks in advance for any info
Cheers
~Matt

Hi Matt. We have an upgrade for a SlingCatcher PL This upgrade uses a custom protocol, so we can't make your Cox remote, control your slingCatcher without a cable.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Is your Cox remote a JP1 remote? In other words, does it have a 6-pin connector inside the battery compartment? If it does, you have the option of buying a JP1 cable which would let you load new setup codes into the remote as upgrades.
Vicky found an upgrade that might work for you, so with the right cable, you should be able to load that upgrade into the remote.

Here's the Cox support page, which shows pictures of remotes that they supply.

OK, the Cox remote is able to do JP1 stuff. It has flash memory and uses serial communcation to upload and download. Most people buy a USB to serial interface cable sold by Tommy Tyler ($29) because nearly every computer has a USB port, and the necessary drivers work on just about every operating system.
But you can make you own serial interface which plugs into a serial port, assuming that you have an old computer available. [Some people have had success using a USB to Serial adapter, but I would be inclined to just buy the above USB interface.]
Here's a couple of ways to build your own.. And here's an example of construction.
The software is free. RemoteMaster allows you to specify or load from file an upgrade, including the assignment of functions to buttons, while IR.exe does the actual work of communicating with the remote. See the Software forum.
