Replacement for 15-2116

Post by jester67 »

I was a member of this board many years ago. Built me cable and programmed my remote and have been living happy every since. Until a couple of months ago when it started acting up and today it died. I am looking for replacement recommendations.

I recommend an Atlas remote from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0171086859

Nice price for the remote, backlight, lots of buttons..

It is not a learning remote though, and it is JP1.3. So you will need to buy a new cable (for USB I wouldn't try building one). And if you need to learn signals (and your 2116 is totally dead) you will want an 'IR-widget'. Both you can get from Tommy here: https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9405

Or from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0513794334

Same 1056 Atlas remote listed above but for only $9.94 shipped. This is where I ordered mine on Monday and it shipped the same day. According to USPS, I should be getting it today.

Here is another ebay place that has them for $9.95 with free shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0129843718

But it looks like it does not come with the batteries.

Even though it does not have an extender, I also like my RCA RCRP05B learning remote I picked up off of eBay for $7 shipped (the sale is over or I'd post a link.) But I miss having a back-light so that is why I ordered the Atlas as well.

There have been some urc-8910's with the "dreaded donut ring" for sale on ebay lately. These should be compatible with your cable, provide 8 devices and backlighting.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Careful - that one is also not backlit. I have bought way too many of them from that 'California Housegoods Corner' seller, so I can vouch for them.

I actually have a bunch of 9910s (the nicer HT Pro version even), and two RS1994s that I would part with for the right price - however I think you will be better off with the Atlas.

Thanks for the help. I was able to locate a 2117 and will use it as soon as I figure out how the software again last time I used it was 2003.
