Comcast Remote to control Onkyo TX-SR605 volume

Post by tuffynix »

I just found this forum. I 'm trying to get my Comcast remote to control my Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver's volume. I know I don't deserve a quick answer, but I'm willing to learn what I need to know.

Which Comcast? Does it have a RED ok/select button or a gray OK/Select button?

Never mind, it appears we can do this with both of them.

It appears that Audio/0135 or Audio/30135 should control your volume, depending on which remote you have.
Other functions such as Power can be managed with Audio 0842 or Audio/30842 depending on which remote you have.

We have an upgrade for your device here that lists the various functions.

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=5290

I have to run now, hopefully someone else can fill in the details.

This is a tough one because we need to decide which code we want to use to use. As far as I can see there isn't a NEC Combo to handle this for us, so we need to use the two codes

Audio/0135 NEC1 210 109

Audio/0842 NEC1 210 108

Most of the functions for this unit go with Device 210/109 but the POWER button is on 210/108, and it has been reported that the Power button, will not accept a keymove. So if you can live with a Power button, on another key, such as the Shift-Power, we can use Audio/0135 as your setup code and supplement them with keymove agains the Audio/0842, but I doubt you'll want to go that way.

A keymove remembers the setup code, so you can temporarily select the 'secondary' - setup code, and do the keymoves, to paste the function to the desired key, and then change to your primary setup code, and functions you'll have functions from both Audio/0135 and Audio/0842.

Instructions for 994 keymove can be found here.

Some of these functions are already available in the setup code and will not require keymoves.

Your Remote uses 5-digit efcs, so eache of the EFC's listed will need to begin with 00.

Here is a list of functions that are available on your Onkyo model.

Since 5 digit EFC's have the device info, wouldn't any NEC1Combo code work, like AUD 1313?

EDIT: I see now that it won't work per the response below.

Well I might be wrong, but I do believe that the NEC combo needs to have the correct Device number in the Fixed Data. The Onkyo has a device number of 210. The Nec1 Combo only lets you combine various subdevices with a single device.

Audio 1313 builds on Device 184 so that wouldn't send the correct device/subdevice combination. Now if the remote had Audio/1298 then yeah we could compute all of the EFC's, but there is no Nec1 Combo in that remote with a device number of 210.

Other protocols have combiners that work the way you're describing but this one doesn't work that way.

The RC-5 combo works that way too.

Holy smokes, you guys/gals really have your poop in a group  . I'm just taking baby steps. I was able to get my Comcast controller to control the volume on my Onkyo Receiver TX-SR605. The 0135 worked for that.
I have to do a bit more reading in this forum in order for me to understand some of what you guys/gals speak of.

Well Dan, I assumed you'd want to turn your receiver on and off too, so we were preparing information so that you could could combine information from two different setup codes using "keymoves".

Thanks vickyg2003, the Comcast remote "All On" takes care of this already. Like I said, I have a ton to learn. I know I could pester you to death, but I feel I need to learn to fish too.

My next goal is to turn on my Toshiba HD DVD Player HD-A35. Yes I know I should have got a Blue-Ray. Since I don't have the Comcast DVR, I though there may be a way to use the "My DVR" button to turn on the DVD player. Is that possible?

Unfortunately there isn't a compatible code to cary the Tohsiba DVD functions, on the gray button Comcast, but there is a compatible code on the Red/buttoned remote.

Then I'll just have to find something wrong with the remote I have and exchange it for a red button version from Comcast.
