That depends on whether you have a serial port or not (now and in the future) and how much you want to spend. They are functionally identical. Tommy Tyler's USB cable is wonderful.

Just keep in mind that you have a flash based JP1.2 remote, so you will be looking for a JP1.2/3 "Flash" cable, don't buy a JP1 "EEPROM" cable.

Rob,

I also have another TV that does not have a cable box(comcast remote). I would like to control lightingin this room as well. The existing remote is basic and not jp1 compatable. Is there a list of remotes I can choose from that I could purchase and use the same JP1.2/3 "Flash" cable to program it.

Check your local Radio Shack to see if they have any of the following remotes in stock: 15-133, 15-134, 15-135 as these are all JP1-ready.

Check ebay for a One For All URC-8820 or an Atlas remote. The only problem with Atlas remotes is knowing what the remote really is, but most of them are JP1.2 or JP1.3 these days, so you should be fairly safe. If in doubt, post a link to the ebay listing and one of the experts will make an educated guess as to what it is.
