Cox 7820b jp1.3 extender?

Post by mchurchm »

I was wondering if there has been an extender written for this remote. I checked the file section and tried to search, but couldn't find anything. I mainly would just like something so I can put macros on my device keys. Thanks for any help.

No, there hasn't been an extender written for this remote. Extenders are usually developed by someone who has an interest and/or access to a particular remote.

Extenders are a time consuming project and require an understanding of assembly language. If your desire and skill set is such that you think you'd be willing to pursue the tedious task we can mentor you. That's how I got started. I got hooked on extenders and Unclemiltie took me under his wing. He's the king of JP1.3 extenders.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

I have some understanding of assembly language, but not much (and its been a while). I also don't have a lot of time (2 jobs and 3 kids). If/when I do have more time, I will consider contributing. Until then I will continue to leech and be eternally grateful for the time you guys put in. Thanks again.

Since I'm the guy who wrote all of the JP1.3 extenders so far, I'll chime in here.

1: I've never seen this remote so I have no idea what it would take. The good news on the JP1.3 remotes is that they have been very similar "inside" so that porting of the one that started as the Atlas remote has made its way on to the Comcast DVR remote, the RS 15-13x and the RS 15-100 (with some surgery)

2: as Vicky said, this is a labor of passion and one that one generally takes on since they want to use the remote and it needs an extender. It takes a lot of time to get one done even though the remotes are "similar" there is always something that gets you in the end.

3: there have been a lot of people asking for an extender for the RCA JP1.3 remote that is floating around out there. I've been looking at it (and in fact am sitting here staring at the extender tonight for the first time in many months) but don't have the time to spend right now.

I'd be happy to teach someone else to do this stuff as well, the JP1.3 extenders are pretty easy to understand, more so than the early JP1 extenders that took a bit of magic to make them work.

If you want to take a crack at it, I'd suggest you download the URC-9960B01 extender source and take a look at it. Once you understand that one, then the JP1.3 can be tackled (the Atlas extender was derived from the 9960B01, which was derived from Nils' 9960B00)
