Nice looking remote. Styling is very similar to the xsight. It looks like they're actually trying to create a cohesive product line. Looks like instead of 6 device buttons, it just has 2 arrow keys for cycling through them. And they've called the macro keys "activities" to compete with logitech, I suppose. Price isn't bad either.
Hope it's JP1.3. Got any inside info, Rob?
HERE's the blurb at remotecentral.

Just got word that it does have a JP1 6-pin. Apparently the US and Europe will be getting different models. Folks in the UK can order it through the Argus catalogue. _________________ Rob

Well now. Yes, indeedy.
Now that I have a house and I'm out of the apartment, and now that OFA has come out with this remote, I have a feeling I may be visiting these forums an awful lot more.
When OFA stopped making the 6131 (old style - which if backlit would have been the best remote for me for Tivo - EVER), I was ashamed to admit that I had gone to the Harmony side with the 670. I may be back. This remote certainly bears some looking into. |

I now have one of these in my possession and I can confirm that it has a 6-pin, but it has the small opening so I can't connect my cable yet, I'll need to either get an adapter or a new IDC connector. _________________ Rob

Could we impose upon you take a couple of pics Rob? Maybe including one or two with the new remote next older remotes for comparison? |

Sure, I can do that, however the pic at the top of this page really does capture what the remote looks like. In terms of length, it's longer than a URC-6131 but shorter than a 15-1994 (the two remotes that I just happened to have on hand to compare), and it's thinner than both of them. _________________ Rob

Thanks Rob. About how wide is it compared to the 6131 and 1994? |

I'm at work now, but from memory I'd say maybe a little narrower. All in all it feels like a small remote because it's so thin, it doesn't have the big bulb like shape that UEI uses for the IR end of many of it's remotes. I suppose it's a similar size and shape to the URC-8820. _________________ Rob

Rob,
when you get a chance, could you see if the pins inside are the (so far) standard .100" spacing? And maybe you could get a good approximation of the small opening through which you access the pins?
Thanks.

I just compared the remote to a URC-8820 and they're pretty much the same size. The pins are standard spacing. I just took the strain relief off my cable and tried downloading, but IR says that it couldn't open the JP1.x interface, so I probably need to open up the remote to see what chip is inside. I hope I'm doing something silly as that's a better option than UEI giving us yet another interface type to worry about. Can you say JP1.4? _________________ Rob
