You only want to create a WAV of the UPGRADES area. You don't want to do the complete image since we don't know what belongs there.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Assigning the update

Post by fog »

Ok this is perfect

How do I go about assigning an update.

I read about the need to do this in the previous posts, but I guess I assumed that by Assigning it in Ir it would assign it to the right keys.

I was unable to find anything on assigning an upgrade

Could you help me with this

Ok I just had a thought that all I may need to do it assign the codes to each section of the remote. Correct?

IT WORKED!

YOU GUYS (AND GIRLS) ROCK!

Thank you for your help this was terrifically fun!

Hi Peter, congratulations.

Just for completeness Pete added these three device upgrades

DVD 2023
AUD 1533
SAT/CBL 2001

and then he had to do the same steps as if he had found the brand/code in the manual that came with his remote.

Total Wrap up

Post by fog »

Everything worked great with the update and reassigning the buttons.

The update did end a few seconds before the end of the sound but gave a confirmation 2 blinks

However the 1 item of the three that I could not get to work was the
AUD 1533

It would work for one button press then either continue to blink the sending IR light (with no effect on the item). OR totally lock up the remote which would reset about 4 seconds later.

I went back and confirmed that I had put in the right types of remotes in RM and IR the only thing I could think could be wrong is the protocol in RM or that it should be set up as something other than Audio or DVD in the remote (I tried both types, In IR and on the remote)

I simply learned the 5 buttons that i needed and called it good.

However if I could resolve it it would be a great learning experience.

Thank you again for your help

We need a link to the AUD/1533 upgrade that you are using.

I'm going to talk a bit over your head here hoping that we get the help from someone with a better understanding.

Device 1533 uses protocol 144, the devicecombiner. A few weeks back I tried to help someone with the devicecombiner on the s3c8+ processor, and I ran into this same situation in this thread
. It would work for one button press then totally lock up the remote.

At that point it was hinted that the device combiner could not work if one of the protocols was an upgrade, so I let it drop, but now it looks like perhaps the devicecombiner for the s3c8+ has a flaw.

I'm hoping we'll get some help here.

Device Combiner

I am hoping we will have some help also

Is there an older version of RM that will work w/o flaw?

or maybe it has nothing to do with RM at all :)

Peter,
We still need a link to the AUD/1533 upgrade you are using, so we can properly diagnose what is going on with the upgrade.

The problem, lies in the upgrade. It could be user error or a flaw in the tools. In order to find the cause, we need the rdmu file.

Upgrade link

I used this link (from earlier in the Post)

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... ile_id=351

It seems to load fine and with my limited experience looks ok also.

But there must be something wrong somewhere :)

Thanks again for your help

hmm, this device uses the device combiner instead of the Sony combo, I've read another here about another user getting hung up with the device combiner on the on this remote. I checked to make sure the output from RM matches the output from KM, to rule out an RDF error. I don't have a 15-2133 to check this out for myself. I don't know how the device combiner works, but the code for the device combiner appears to be remote specific as opposed to our other protocols which are processor specific.

I'm thinking that converting this upgrade might be more user friendly.

I'd agree with that. It would be much simpler to use the Sony 12/15/20 Combo rather than the device combiner.

(Be careful when converting as the DC shows MSB OBCs while the Sony Combo needs LSB OBC values.)

Use this upgrade for Sony Dream Systems. You'll probably need to cut out functions to save space.

I haven't checked every OBC, but the the ones I did check match the C770. Sony is very good at keeping the same OBCs for similar functions, and tend to vary the device numbers instead. The notes in the C770 upgrade show you which devices the C770 uses, and you can see that they match. I also did a quick cross check with a DAV-C700 file from RemoteCentral, and everything matches. IMO, much better and more understandable than a device combiner.
