Oops! Embarassed on further testing I found that I sent the remote into an infinite loop when keys that sent a certain style were sent.

I've fixed the protocol. It now sends at least 1 repeat frame of each signal. Please check it and let me know if that is enough when a key is in the middle of a macro. If not it will require a little more tweaking.

That looks like it works. With the few simple macros I have right now but I will need to spend some more time with it to give you the final call. I am busy with kid things all day today I will spend some time with it in the morning and let you know. Thanks for all of your help.

By the way is there some good starting place to try understand what you did I would like to "learn to fish". I have looked around but have not sumbled across a good starting place.

Thanks,
Rich

If we could coax the_Robman back into the forum, he'd be your best bet. He has a great command of the subject and he's a great teacher. I'll say that this particular protocol was more complex than most.

Its taken me a great deal of study because its a HUGE subject.

I'd recommend reading my primer on infrared signals.

Then read protocol builder help.

Another must read is the anatomy of an upgrade

Then I'd look at the protcol decodes section because for two years I've been badgering The_Robman with questions on how to do this. Rob is a very good and patient teacher.

Thanks for all your help on this. I gave gotten all of my macros and keymoves working now using your "patched" protocol. So it looks like it is good to go. One last question. Now that I have this working I would like to post it for others with the same TV. How should I do that. I have the KM file that I created but now it also needs this patched protocol. Should I just zip the protocol hex along with the KM text file or is there a better way?

Thanks
Cartilage.

Long Live JP1.

Oh my, I hadn't thought that far ahead. Cartlige your device upgrade is good as it is. The thing is , I did something stupid here. I just created a new custom protocol 01FF which was really a "macro friendly 007E". I changed your device in IR to point to 01FF.

Since the 007E is such a complicated protocol, I think I should I have left your protocol pointing at 007e and then named the new protocol 007e.

Rob if your reading, what should I have done here procedurally?

I always wondered what the best procedure is.

I have a tweaked PanasonicCombo that Rob made, and GI that you, Vicky, made, and a Dish proto that I made, and my solution is to paste the protocol lines into KM upgrade file and a note to myself: Put this into Protocols in IR. Once the horse is out of the barn it's a bit of a mess really.
