Comcast DVR remote and Marantz Receiver
Moderator: Moderators
So, assuming that you are using a Comcast remote, and the Marantz receiver is similar to a SR-7200, try the following experiment:
Use Setup code Video 1781 (21781 if it takes 5 digit setup codes).
Then try some of the following, using the procedures Vicky outlined earlier. If any of these work, we can combine them in with 30189.

BTW, I am using a Comcast 1067BC3-0001-R and a the Marantz RC003SR from my SR6003 receiver.
I tried several of the codes and they worked! I got everything to work except I am still missing "enter" and "Input: DVD". I tried your select code for enter but it didn't work.
So I was doing some research on my own and found a full Marantz RC-5/RC-5 Ex. command listing here:
us.marantz.com/Marantz_RC_codes_All_AVR_Amp.zip
RC-5 Ex Code
System Command Extension
Enter(OK) 16 87 -
DVD 16 00 10
So I looked thru the help files and section on the forum and couldn't find a simple cross reference to the codes you provided. Do I have to download and use IR or RM to do this?
Thanks again!

Good! I'm glad that some of that works. That Marantz file is great--it seems to list every code under the sun.
Enter is EFC 28773. (Select is 16 82, while Marantz shows enter as 16 87.) I'm getting these codes by using RM, and a file originally done in KM for the 7200. Link to 7200 file. But the file you found is even better.
The EFCs I listed earlier are all in the RC5 protocol. However, any of the remote codes which have an extension--the DVD code, for example--use the RC5x protocol. Video 1781 is a combo protocol, and can do nearly any code in RC5 and some RC5x codes. I'll have to experiment tonight to see if the Comcast remote is capable of providing the correct RC5x codes.
Do you need to use both 30189 and 21781? Put another way, to use 21781, do you need to keymove nearly every function? If so, I think we can set the remote up to mostly use 30189 and just keymove in the particular 21781 EFCs that are needed. The process is a little more involved, so I'll only work on that if it is needed.

Thank you Vickyg2003,
I searched online for a way to fix my new comcast remote and found everything I needed right here in this thread.
I'm using a Marantz SR4500 receiver (yes, it's old, but it works).
I tested the first four EFC codes you listed (vol up, dwn, power, mute) and after finding that they worked piggybacked them to AUX which was already setup with 30189.
I noticed that you posted extra codes for controlling the tuner and such, I was wondering if you had more for Inputs? I noticed 3FG posted some for a different receiver and setup mode.
Thanks Vickyg2003

Nomnom,
The Marantz receivers all use the same codes, so the inputs I listed above will work with your receiver. In mtman74's 3rd to last post, he gives a link to a zip file that contains all the codes, including those for the SR4500. You can make any of the codes work which don't have an entry in the extension column.
You can check if the codes work by temporarily using setup code 21781, and pressing setup briefly and then typing in the 5 digit EFC while the remote is aimed at the receiver.
If you decide you want to use any of the new EFCs, you will need to keymove them, while still setup on 21781. After that is done you can revert to 30189.
Use these instructions to do the keymoves via 994.

Wow. So what you're saying is, I can keymove codes for 21781, and then go back to 30189, and I will have working buttons from both setup codes? i.e. EFCs from two setup codes: 30189, 217813FG wrote:Nomnom,

Yes, and I just checked that it works with a Comcast 1067BX3 (the one with a red OK/select button) by programming the Comcast remote and then using another learning remote to read the signals.
I think all of the EFCs I gave above will work, but you might want to check the Marantz spreadsheet just to make sure.
Each keymove will consume 7 bytes of keymove/macro memory. My remote (yours too, probably) starts with 477 bytes. So if you use no macros, you can have 60+ keymoves. If you actually get in that deep, it would be worthwhile to buy one of Tommy Tyler's JP1.3 cables. That saves a lot of memory, and reduces the likelihood of errors

I do have the silver comcast remote (red ok button, comcast in black) and I switched AUX to 21781. Since the vol's, mute, and power still work, I'm just going to keep AUX on 21781. I've already keymoved all the inputs you gave me using the EFCs from above, but the EFC's for Input: DSS and Input: LD doesn't work. I think these are supposed to correspond with the DSS/VCR2 and DVD inputs on my Marantz SR4500 remote.
Any suggestions for getting those two inputs to work? BTW, I downloaded the marantz zip you suggested, and I don't really know how to apply those codes suggested there in.
EDIT: Apologies 3FM, I just read the conversation over you had earlier. So as I understand it, I won't be able to find codes to change the input to DVD or DSS? Judging from what you said earlier. I actually wouldn't mind buying a JP1 cable. It'd be fun to learn exactly how to interact with this remote. I hope the whole processes isn't too involve or costly.
Thanks btw

I made a mistake on the DSS. Instead of 00709, use 66245. That's 00709+65536 (2^16). The Comcast remote is treating 00709 as if we mean specifically a 3 digit EFC, rather than a 5 digit EFC which happens to start with 00.
It's no go with the DVD button. If you look at the Marantz spreadsheet, you'll see that the DVD input has a 10 in the third column (system, command, extension). That means it uses the RC5x protocol, rather than the RC5 protocol. The Comcast remote doesn't have RC5x, with device 16, built in. So the keymoves can't work.
If you buy a cable, then you can add a protocol upgrade which supports device 16. The cable costs $35 shipped, and all of the software is free. If you are so inclined, it is possible to build your own cable for less money, but you really need a serial port on your computer. Tommy's cable uses a USB port.
Of course, you could buy a $20 remote and get the DVD capability, because there are quite a few which have the RC5x, dev 16 protocol built in. But a cable is way more flexible. For example, the All On button sends out power toggle signals to all of the devices. It takes about 0.75 seconds betwen devices, and my teenagers are too impatient to wait for that. But with a cable, it can be made to go faster. Also the Comcast remote has 3 device buttons, but has a 4th device capability. I'm controlling 5 components with what looks like a 3 device remote.
You can see some of the possibilities by downloading Remote Master 1.97 from the Software Forum. Install it, including getting the RDF and image files, and on the setup tab choose the RC5/RC5x Combo protocol. Then on the function tab, enter in numbers from the Marantz spreadsheet (System = RC5 device; Command = OBC) and it will fill in the corresponding EFC. And you'll see that those EFCs match what was posted here.

thanks a lot for all the help and attention 3FM. I actually already have a Harmony 880, which I never use.
for shame, I know. I just like the simplicity of the Comcast remote, and I've gotten used to it. It feels right to me. The Harmony is flashy, but frankly I don't want to have to select devices from a menu to get the buttons I need. Comcast remote is quicker, imo.
I figured out a work around.
This might be a little dumb since I didn't figure this out sooner.
The digital inputs on the Marantz can be manually designated to different audio modes. I just switched the Digital 2 input from DVD to VCR and viola, I can now control my three digital audio inputs from my comcast remote.
Thanks again.
I do have another, more awkward, question regarding my Geffen switch, but that belongs in another thread most likely.
