Hi,
I have just purhased a new USB JP1 driver cable from DIYGADGET.COM and am having problems installing the driver. My new PC has Vista 64 Home Premium running.
When selecting the location of the driver manually I get a message that no driver software has been found although the file 'USBIODS.SYS' does exist ?

Unfortunately there are no Vista 64 drivers for the USB JP1 (EEPROM) cable. I suggest you exchange it for the Simple Parallel version. If you don't have a parallel port, you can get a PCI parallel port card fairly cheap which should work with the cable and IR. I say, "should work", because I don't recall seeing any reports of vista 64 working with the parallel interface, but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't work.
Another option is to get a newer JP1.3 (or JP1.2) remote and a JP1.3 cable, which does have vista 64 drivers. As you probably already know, a JP1.3 (FLASH) cable won't work with a JP1 (EEPROM) remote.

I think it's very unlikely you'll ever see USB JP1 for vista 64. There is some discussion at the end of THIS thread.
The problem is that Delcom, who makes the chip and the driver used in the USB JP1 cable, quit updating the driver quite a while ago and never made one for vista 64. And they never will, since they've come out with a new chip. The current driver just barely works in 32-bit vista, if you can get it to work at all (I can't get it to work reliably). Now the new Delcom chip likely does work fine in vista 64 since Delcom switched to using drivers already built into the OS. Problem is this new chip is too expensive (like the old one) and no JP1 vendors use it for several reasons. Furthermore, I don't think any plan to since JP1 EEPROM is essentially obsolete.
On the other hand, the JP1.3 cable uses a chip by FTDI, which has drivers for every OS under the sun. All new JP1 remotes are JP1.3.
So the bottom line is, to use the older technology remote, you'll have to get an older technology parallel port and cable to go with it, or at least use an older OS like XP to use with your USB cable. I wasn't keen on it either, but I had no choice when I upgraded to vista (32) and my USB JP1 cable wouldn't work. I've since gotten rid of all my JP1 remotes and only have JP1.3 remotes now.
On the bright side, JP1.3 remotes like one-for-all seem to be cheap and plentiful there in Europe, with lots of great models to choose from. Not so here in the US. These days we've only got radio shack, a few one-for-all's and some cable remotes available only on ebay.

That's a question for Delcom (the folks who make the chip that Tommy uses in his JP1 (EEPROM) USB cables.
Since they haven't posted any updates since 02/12/2008, I wouldn't expect any now:

Plus, as Delcom has now moved onto a Generation II chip, that further supports my guess that the Gen I chip has been abandoned.

Glad you found a solution. A few JP1 users, developers and vendors have worked closely with Delcom in the past with limited success. The older 3.1 version that seems to work best with JP1 is a result of those efforts. Later versions don't work as well or may not work at all, even in XP. If Delcom does offer a solution, please let us know.
