Philips 30" LCD 30PF9946D

Post by JohnSilver »

1. Device: Philips 30" LCD 30PF9946D
2. Type of device: TV
3. Year: 2005
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: 8811
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes, parallel
6. Still have original remote? Yes - Philips RC4334/01
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes. The file phi-tv-30pf9946.zip (containing LCD-Philips-30PF9946.ccf) seems to be exactly for my TV.
9. Partially working setup code? Yes, 0054 works fine for all but one critical key
10. Learning remote question? No

First off, thanks to all for your contributions to JP1. I've benefited greatly over the years and haven't had the knowledge to contribute.

I've been using the 8811 for years to control this TV and one thing has always annoyed me. When I turn on the TV with either POWER or DISCRETE ON, the input mode defaults to the low definition input (AV). To select the high definition input, I must wait approximately 7 seconds for the TV to finish its power up. Then, by sending the appropriate key (AV3), it will switch to high definition mode.

The original remote for this TV can power it up with its POWER button of course, and it works as described above, complete with the 7 second delay. But it also has an HD (as well as TV and PC) button that will power the TV up directly into high definition mode and this is the button I'd like to get the code for and use to power up the TV.

I have tried every Philips device and just about all work fine, but none contain the HD button, as far as I can find. Is there a way to learn it from the original remote, then convert it to a suitable JP1 EFC?

Any help or clues on how to proceed would be most appreciated.

I do believe the 8811 is a learning remote. You can learn the code to your remote and then read it into IR. Since the upgrade 0054 works it indicates its an RC-5 signal. Since its RC-5 you'll either need to use it as a keymove or make a new upgrade, because RC-5 signals toggle with each push. Learned signals don't toggle, they are static.

The learning procedure

I used an old 7800 and did a manufacturers reset, then learned as per your link. The 7800 learned the key perfectly and powers up the TV in high definition mode.

I then examined the 7800 in IR and it has one new (and only one) Key Move. Funny thing, I learned it into the Device TV, "1" key on the 7800, and it shows up as Device CBL/SAT, Key "REC".

Then, I tried to create it in my 8811 as a new Key Move, but pressing the key had no effect on the TV.

I just posted the file JJ 30PF9946.zip in the diagnostics area. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

That "file" is just a link back to this thread, you didn't load the actual file.
