XMP-R Protocol

Post by alanrichey »

I've just tried to learn the IR Codes for an Amstrad Sky HD box and it learns them OK but uses this XMP-R protocol, and that does not appear in the drop-down options in RemoteMaster.

Is there an easy solution to this ?

An XMP signal is both nearly impossible to learn correctly and full of redundancy so that it might be understood even if learned incorrectly.

An XMP-R decode represents a specific part of an XMP signal. If that part was learned even near correctly, it contains enough information to represent the entire signal.

If you can't figure it out yourself (with XMP learns, most people can't), follow the instruction in the post that Rob linked for putting enough learned signals in files in our diagnosis area that some expert (usually Rob) can figure it out for you.

Hi both

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry, I should have been more explicit in my original post. I was already aware of the full system but had decided not to bother, I just wondered if there was a quick and easy solution, not having seen the XMP protocol before.

If I was doing this for myself I would probably persevere, but all I am doing is to try and help some people in the Sling Community by loading their unsupported boxes into my Harmony Remote and then using a URC 8910 to learn. So far I am getting about a 70% success rate in seeing recognised protocols and building the remotes with RM. But they are coming in at the rate of 3-4 a week, and I just don't have the time (or inclination) to follow through on protocols not immediately available in RM.

Maybe one day ..... :-)

But... if you load the IR files with the unrecognized protocols here and ask for our help, we'll do the rest.

OK, as you insist :-)

A zip file with the learned commands uploaded and a new thread started in the Protocol Downloads area. Let me know if I have not carried out the procedure correctly, as this is my first time.

I suspect you will need some of the functions re-learnt, so please let me know. And if you could explain to me how this example relates to your protocol decoding instructions maybe I can do it myself next time (they looked a bit daunting first time through)

Out of interest, the Harmony Remote allows you to define the number of repeats the button uses, anywhere between 0 and 5. it normally defaults to 1 or 2, Is there any benefit in changing that ?

Cheers

Al
