|
|
1. Device: LG RH 255
2. Type of device: DVD recorder with HD
3. Year: ?
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: ?
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? no
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? no
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes
9. Partially working setup code? no
10. Learning remote question? no
I can't figure out the discrete code to enable AV1 input rather than cycling all sources.
My LG recorder appears to respond fine to this codes for discrete on and off commands:
DVD ON
0000 006d 0022 0003 00ab 00aa 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 003e 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 06c3 00ab 00aa 0016 0014 0016 0e7d

0000 006d 0022 0003 00ab 00aa 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 003f 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 003f 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 003e 0016 06c3 00ab 00aa 0016 0014 0016 0e7d
I guess it's an RCA modulation, as far as I can understand waveform obtained with TONTO program to RCA description. |

These signals use the NECx1 protocol with a device code (and sub-device code) of 45. The OBC for ON is 117, and the OBC for OFF is 118.
I don't have a code for AV1 input but I do have 3 "mode" codes, are these inputs?
241 - DVD MODE
242 - HDD MODE
243 - VCR MODE
I have added your discrete codes to a new master file that I just created for LG DVD players that use NECx1, dev 45 here:

I didn't understand a single word of what you said... That's my fault, I don't know anything about JP1 remotes...
How can I use your file, and where could I find information/explanations about its contents?
Anyway, the codes you listed are just to switch operating mode of the device: play/record HDD files, play/record DVD files, and...? Don' t know, my device has just 2 modes. |

I did some interesting discovery:
- my RH 255 recorder has same codes listed in this file of yours, which is for LG DVD recorder RH-7800 (at least the basic keys, I didn't test them all, and rh255 does not have some of rh-7800 functions).
- codes listed there can be easily converted into a hexadcimal format which, inserted in TONTO program, allows obtaining the corresponding PRONTO code, binary sequecne, pulse sequence, and even the plotting of the waveform!
Example:
Function.2.name=TV/DVD
Function.2.hex=82
Subtract 0x82 from 0xff: you get 0x7d
Hex code FOR THE SINGLE COMMAND is 0x7d82 ; the complete code is 0xb4b47d82 : something similar to "b4b4" appears in Jp1 file (don't know if there's actually a connection between the numbers):
FixedData=30 4b 4b
unfortunately your file does not contain discrete AV codes, but I'm going to test all 256 available commands to look for it.
-Finally, there's also a LIRC file available for my DVD recorder:

There aren't any discrete inputs in our LG files, but now that you've found a way to test all 256 codes, if you do find any discretes (or anything else) please report back so I can include the codes in the master file. _________________ Rob

I found a couple of very interesting discrete codes, which allow accessing two different system menus!
I didn't yet finished looping through all codes, once I finish I'll post all the results.
I don't remember the codes right now, I wrote them down on another PC... I think one of it was 0xfc or 0xfb... |

Ok, I completed scanning all thew 256 commands; I didn't test all of them directly, because some of them only works whn the dvice is in a specific state; anyway I endorsed the table with data from LIRC file and other sources.
This is ther final result:
LG DVD Recorder RH-255 (RH-7800?)
Hidden codes:
ON - 0xaf
OFF - 0x6f
play DVD - 0x87
ch+ (additional ?) - 0xe7
ch- (additional ?) - 0x17
System1 - 0xfb
System2 - 0xa7
System3 - 0x87
No discrete AV commands.
Column D appears to contain almost all recording-related commands (but for DUBBING, 0x16, and MARKER, 0x86). |

Don't bother trying to find patterns in the hex code that you are using because any pattern that you find will just be a coincidence. The hex codes that you are using are the OBC backwards. In other words, if you convert your hex into binary, then reverse it, then convert it to decimal, you will get the OBC (original button code) of the function. When you sort the functions by OBC they make much more sense.
Here's the master list, including the new functions that you found, sorted by OBC:
OBC - hex - button name
048 - 0x0C - power toggle
049 - 0x8C - Play
050 - 0x4C - rewind
051 - 0xCC - fast fwd
052 - 0x2C - skip+
053 - 0xAC - skip-

055 - 0xEC - Slow Fwd 1/16x
056 - 0x1C - Pause
057 - 0x9C - Stop

I think there's a mistake in discrete ON and OFF codes (they should be AE and 6E rather than BE and 7E).
Apart from this, is there any information available about how to use service menus? |

Yup, looks like I cut and pasted them down a row. It's fixed now.

I don't have the device, so I just know what you guys tell me. Here's what was written about each of the service menu codes:
222 - Mp1
223 - Factory Reset !!!, reset all incl region to 1 (your "system1")
224 - CPRM DATA READ/SAVE, Write info without confirmation!!!
225 - TECHNICAL MENU, Reset after exit! Don't touch! (your "system3")
226 - INTERLACE/PROG SCAN, Black screen if TV not compatible!
229 - (your "system2") _________________ Rob

I may be a n00b at this, but I am also have an LG DVD Recorder, LRA-860, looking for the discrete code for the "HOME" key. preferrably the 3-digit EFC code if possible. not sure if its called a discrete key, but thats the one i need. _________________ Rogers Digital Personal TV

There are many ways to convert an OBC to an EFC, and I also do not have admin rights on my work PC and I can do all of them here.
1) Use the EFC calculator in IR.exe
NEC is an LSB-comp protocol, so you would enter 103 in the "LSB Comp" box.
2) Use the KM spreadsheet
You do need to have Excel installed on your PC, but I'm guessing that most work PCs have Excel. Fire up the spreadsheet, select the NECx1 protocol, go to the Functions sheet, click the OBC button, enter 103 and the EFC will appear in the EFC column.
3) Use RM
You would need to have the Java runtime environment installed to run the java version. If you don't have it installed, download the EXE version instead. Similar approach as with KM.
4) You could use the worksheets here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/worksheets.shtml
Again, as NEC is LSB-comp, you would select worksheet1 where you could just look up the EFC.
The EFC for home is 202. _________________ Rob
