At this point, I'm wondering if this remote is really a JP1.3 compatible remote. |
I'm pretty sure it's a JP1.x remote. You wouldn't get the message you're getting were it not. As Rob says you might have a corrupt ROM, or there's still an interface issue.
I'm having flashbacks to when my DIY interface refused to connect to the first Atlas. Got that fixed (thanks Tommy) and then recently had the issue trying to connect to a Comcast JP1.3 1067. Bending pin 5 solved that.
[edit and snip] I see you got it from ebay store. Was it the $9.99 shipped ones? My 2 time warners are from him.

Was the vendor named californias_housegood_corner? I got 3 from him some time ago.
I also have a saved IR file of the factory memory if anyone needs it.
Also, Carl, that picture you posted of the interface of your Atlas looks different than mine. On yours the PCB is an orange-like color while mine is white. And P1.3 is all you can see of the type of interface to the left of the interface while mine is displayed above the interface in full view.
Could they be different? |

I used that seller also.
My time warner's both say: 1056BC1-BLX-XXX-0001-001-R
The circuit board is labeled JP1.3 above (toward the IR emitter) the JP1.3 header.
Yours says (yikes!): 1056ABA1-BXX-001-XXXX-XXX-R
My sunflower atlas has: 1056ABA1-BXX-001-XXXX-XXX-R
and has the JP1.3 partially obscured by the header like yours.
Not that it helps you, but I have a remote with the same sticker like yours. |

So is yours working? And if so what circuit do you have? |

I have the same remote as Jeff and have had no issues with Tommy's JP1.3 "flashing LED" thumb interface.
I use a Mac with Windows running under Parallels desktop so I have to use the USB interfaces. _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

My atlas is also identical to yours and from the same vendor. Mine wouldn't work with an earlier version of Tommy's USB cable whereas my other JP1.3 remotes would work. It works perfectly with the latest one. I don't know what changed between his earlier design and the latest one, or whether that would have any bearing on the discrete transistor design you used. |

I have the discrete design with transistors.I'm not sure if someone tested this design with the atlas remote JP1.3.
I may build the IC version to do some tests. |

My remotes work fine with Tommy's serial JP1.2/3 design. I think we're coming to the conclusion it's your interface.
Sorry,

I will recheck my interface all over again but it's a bit weird that it is working with other remote.
I will report back my progress to let you know how it goes.
Thanx a lot everyone all your feedback help me a lot. |

When I first started with the Atlas in the JP1.3 world I had a home-built discrete design and it worked fine. I have since abandoned that since I moved to a computer with no serial port and went for the USB design from Tommy. _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

You keep saying that, but it really isn't weird at all, as your other remote is a JP1.2 and this one's a JP1.3. All three JP1.x platforms are different to each other and Tommy has had to revise his designs each time a new platform came out. He tried to make one design that would work with all three but it wasn't possible. His old designs worked with both JP1.1 and JP1.2 but didn't work with JP1.3, his new designs work with both JP1.2 and JP1.3, but not JP1.1, and as has already been established, your particular remote has proven to be more fussy than most about which cable it works with and which it doesn't.
Hopefully, if you build a new cable, or get one from Tommy, the remote will download OK, but there is still a chance that something got corrupted in the remote and if that corruption is in the routine that makes the download/upload process work, you would be SOL with this remote. _________________ Rob

Well there is hope.. I got the JP1xTEST to recognize my remote.
Unfortunately I do not know why it worked since I did not change anything...
I was testing the reset circuit with comtest and the cable button blinked twice every time so its a good sign.Voltage stays low (Verified with a voltmeter).Communication with comtest was also a success.
Look at my signature which I only had a chance to have once so far.

I did the IC version and its working now! I really don't know why it was not working with the transistors.I had to use a M74LS266P because I did not have a 74HC266 on hand. I can upload and download without any problems.
JP1 remotes are really the way to go.I can control every projectors at work without having to carry a million remotes.
Thanx a lot everyone. |
