Help me find the extender I need?

Post by chjade »

I have a Kameleon 9960 and for the life of me I can't figure out which extender I need. I took it apart to solder on a JP1 connector and got the information off the label and PCB but they seem to be no help.

The Label says:
URC9964BJ0
J062201

The PCB says:
9960BJ4
UEIS-10600

The extenders I have found are:
URC-9960B00 (KASAKASX)
URC-9960B01 (KASAKASX)
URC-9960BJ5 (SAKAS0)
URC-9960 Extender 1 (NAKxNAKx)
URC-9960 Extender 2 (NAKxNAK2)
URC-9960 (NAK0NAK0)

There are two versions of the URC-9960 Kameleon.

The older models were just called URC-9960 and when you download their memory using IR, it will select the NAK0NAK0 RDF. The later versions were called "URC-9960 B01" and these would use the KASAKAS0 RDF in IR.

If you have the "NAK0NAK0" version, use one of the following extenders:

URC-9960 Extender 1 (NAKxNAKx)
URC-9960 Extender 2 (NAKxNAK2)
URC-9960 (NAK0NAK0)

If you have the "KASAKAS0" version, use one of the following extenders:

URC-9960B00 (KASAKASX)
URC-9960B01 (KASAKASX)
URC-9960BJ5 (SAKAS0)

(The fact that your Kameleon is called URC-9964 simply means that it comes with an RF extender, it doesn't tell us which version of the basic remote you have).

The remote number is usually silk screened on the battery cover. So if you have the original battery cover and the silk screening hasn't warn off, you could tell by reading the battery cover.

The best way to tell is to download your remote and see which RDF it picks.

Then look at the features of the extenders and see which one you want. Typically the latest is the greatest.

hmmmm.... is that a typo? If not, I didn't know about that last one. As the author of the extender for the B01, I have no clue about the SAKAS0 so I have no clue if the extender will work in that remote. (Nils wrote the one for the NAK0 remote)

I did seem to remember that there were some versions of the 9960B01 that had different EEPROM chips in them and they got different letters on the labels, but I hadn't seen the signature change. Some of them had issues with IR in downloading and you had to force the E2 size in IR to make them download right.

But as long as you have the KAS0KAS0 remote, the 9960B01 extender is the one you want. There is only one version that supports that remote, so that'll make choosing which one easy.

I dunno, I just took his list and sorted it into the two groups. If there is an extender called "SAKAS0" I assume it would go with the KASAKAS0 remote rather than the NAK0NAK0.

How I missed that is a mystery to me...

It's the B00 version. URC-9964B00.

Another case of looking too deeply and missing the obvious.

Thanks for the help!

Then you will be using the extender done by Nils, for the NAK0NAK0 remote

Just to be clear, the "B00" label on a URC-9964 doesn't necessarily mean that it's the same remote as a URC-9960 that has a "B00" label, as UEI uses different labels for different model numbers.

From a JP1 point of view, you'll know whether it's like the old URC-9960 or the newer URC-9960B01 based on which RDF is selected when you download.

The older models tended to have 2k EEPROM chips and the newer ones tended to have 4k EEPROM chips. This may be useful to know if you have trouble getting the download to work in IR.
