Fast Forward 30 seconds

Post by Omega »

I have a Comcast remote with the red select button. I just received a PCWorld magazine that said I could reprogram the remote to jump ahead 30 seconds when watching the DVR. The proceedure they gave was.

Press the Cable Button
Hold the Setup Button until the cable button blinks twice.
Enter 994 (cable button will flash twice again)
Press the Setup Button and enter 00173.
Finally press the button you want to use for 30 second skip.

I tried this and it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how to set this up?

Q1. Is there a model number anywhere on your remote (even in the battery compartment)? Better yet, can you find a picture of it on the web and post a link to it.

Q2. What device does this remote control?

Q3. When you tried the sequence that you stated, did you get the expected flashes at each step, and if not, which steps worked and which didn't?

Comcast uses either the URC-1067 (JP1.2 remote) or the JP1.3 version that looks essentially the same. Both have the JP1.x connector on them by default. I don't remember if the 1067 has the ability to enter keymoves from the keypad, it is relatively limited in its built in code.

If you have a cable, this is simple to do. I did it with my Comcast (until I discontinued comcast entirely) if you want to enter your own keymove via IR, the Skip forward function is OBC 173, HEX FC. You can use the device that is in the upgrade for the remote as CBL/1376

(this is for the Motorola box)

The red select button is usually the jp1.3 version. I definitely did this with the jp1.2 version before I got a cable. It should work for the jp1.3 I would assume. You might try 173 instead of 00173 in case you do have a jp1.2 version of the remote.

If your cable box has the latest software, the page up and down buttons can be used as 30 sec skip and 15-sec review.
