I hate to say this, but I think my new 8810w may be defective... either that or the manual is totally wrong.

This may be moot once I get my JP1 working, but I hate to start with a questionable remote, so can you guys tell me what is happening?

I can't get the remote to learn. I don't think it's an ID10T error because I can get the macros to work which follows a very similar procedure.

For learning the manual says:

Press and hold "set" until in blinks twice. (this works)

Enter "9 7 5" and it will blink twice. (this does not work, it gives one long blink)

Then the rest of the procedure does not give proper "blink" feedback either. So I don't think it's even trying to learn.

If I hold "set" and enter "9 9 5" it does blink twice, and the macro procedure works fine. I can also successfully enter my component codes, and they work.

The long blink in the learning mode is the same blink I get if I try to enter an invalid component code.

maybe the learning memory is full for some reason.

try a 981 reset. (hold set till blinks twice, enter 9-8-1)

What model number does the door to the battery compartment say your remote is? Maybe they accidently slipped you an 8011.

If all that fails, did wal-mart have any more? maybe you could exchange this one for another one.

It doesn't behave that way when learning memory is full. I behaves that way when it thinks there is no eeprom.

If the eeprom is actually OK and the remote was just confused about it, the 981 reset will fix it (so the 975 works). Otherwise, take it back.

The 8011 is much smaller and missing several keys near the end where the 8810 has its pip and transport (play, pause, etc.) keys.
