RS-2116 Remote

Post by Scott39 »

I have what I consider to be a complex situation. First of all, I have a RS-2116 remote. I am running the following equipment: TV, 2 VCR's, DVD Player, 2 Directivos, 1 Dish Network Receiver, 1 standalone Tivo,Stereo System, and a Radio Shack remote controlled switch box. I know I can setup several devices on the remotes by entering the device codes, but I am looking at being able to setup both Directivos, and deal with the addressing situation with them, as well as setup as many of the other things as possible. My understanding is that I can setup both Directivos if I have a JP1 cable and the right software. I don't know anything about JP1. So to begin with, I need someone to help me determine where I can get the cable at, it would be good if I could get it at radio shack if possible, but if not, that's ok. Then, I need someone to point me to the software I need to accomplish this. Last, once I have both of these, what is the easiest way to accomplish this task? Are the software instructions to do these things already setup by others and you just enter them yourself, or what? I would appreciate anyone's help on all of this.

You can buy the JP1 cable from tom at filebug or hovisdirect. The www.hovisdirect.com one is the cheapest at $14 including shipping to anywhere in the US.

You can also build the cable from parts. There is a guide to building the cable at jp1/yahoo files section (see my signature line) and almost all the parts are available from radio shack, with the exception of the 6 pin female header. This can be hacksawed from old computer ribbon cable connectors, if you have any old computers lying about, or it can be purchased from mouser.com.

If you are going to make one yourself, make sure you get the right resistor values and the right diode values, as they may have changed a bit since the how-to manual was made. There is a thread in this forum somewhere that lists the correct components.

All the tools (IR.exe, KM.exe, RM.jar) are available in the tools folder at yahoo files section.

Read the beginners guide also.

Guide to building a JP1 cable: HERE (but use 1N5818 diode and 1K resistors.)

The female connector can be made from a computer IDE connector: HERE, or the 6 pin connector can be purchased directly (no hacksaw needed) from mouser.com: HERE

I have read that the 1N5818 diode and the 6 pin female connector are not sold by radio shack.

Good Luck,
