* DKP - Double Key Press
The act of invoking a function on the remote by pushing a button twice
Requires a special protocol

* EFC - Extended Function Code
This is an encrypted code intended to disguise the true OBC (UEI invented it, so don't blame us). EFCs are used to manually program keymoves on the remote itself. - Rob

* HEX - Hexadecimal
The common computer numbering scheme - Base 16. Our decimal numbering scheme is 0123456789. Hex is 0123456789ABCDEF.

* HTM - Home Theater Mode
A setting on some remotes that allows button sets from multiple devices (DVD/TV/Receiver) to be active simultaneously

* IR - Infrared
A. A portion of the light spectrum outside our visual range that is used by many devices (like remotes) to transmit information
B. A utility program used to communicate to a JP1/JP1.X remote

* JP1 / JP1.1 / JP1.2 / JP1.3
A port found on many UEI/OFA remotes that lets you connect the remote to a PC

* KM - Key Master
An Excel spreadsheet that allows you to map out functions to remote buttons - Similar to RM

* LKP - Long Key Press
The act of invoking a function on the remote by pushing and holding a button. Requires a special protocol.

* LOS - Line Of Sight
IR remotes are line of sight devices. You have to point the remote at the receiving device.

* OBC - Original Button Code
The actual command code sent out by the remote. If you picked apart an IR packet for the NEC1 protocol, for example, you'd find that the remote transmits the actual OBC code (in hex).

* OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturers
Companies that produce and sell items - UEI is an OEM

* OFA - One For All
Universal Electronics' consumer-branded remotes

* RF - Radio Frequency
Some remotes use radio waves to communicate rather than IR. These remotes do not need to be pointed at the receiving device.

* RM - Remote Master
A JAVA-based program that allows you to map out functions to remote buttons - Similar to KM

* RDF - Remote Definition File
A file used by IR.EXE that stores the configuration data for a specific remote

* TPT - Transport Punch Through
A remote setting that keeps the transport buttons (PLAY/PAUSE/STOP/FF/REW/REC) for one device active even if another device is active
You can control your DVD player even if your remote is in "TV" mode.

* VPT - Volume Punch Through
A remote setting that lets you control the volume on a device even if a different device is active
You can turn up the volume on your TV even if your remote is in "Cable" mode.

I wrote the above post to help JP1 users become familiar with the terminology. It was partially for my benefit, too, as I had to re-learn everything I'd forgotten in 10 years.

If you have any corrections, feel free to post them.

I left out an explanation of the EFC/OBC acronyms because I didn't think I could do them justice. Can someone write up a small blurb for them?

OBC:
Is, in short, the key specific data sent, usually a hexadecimal code, and usually a reference to the key matrix location. In other works "key code", in its actual form.

EFC:
is a recode of the OBC to a 3 or 5 digit code, use to program "key moves" on OneForAll remotes. In other words "key code" in a trasnmorgified fashion to enter in on the numeric keypad.

OBC
This is the logical command code. Typically, similar functions will have sequential OBCs, especially the numeric buttons.

EFC
