I received my backlit Atlas OCAP remote today and promptly popped it open. It contained around 10 orange LEDs with a 0402 footprint. That's 1.0mm x 0.5mm.
These LEDs appear to be running at forward voltage of 1.9V. The LEDs underneath the setup and power buttons run dim at 1.7V. (I'm sure there's a current limiting resistor that can be changed, too.)
Looking around, I found that Lumex makes some 0402's.

These are available through Mouser & Digikey.
They come in red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Of these colors, it looks like only the red would be a direct replacement for the orange LEDs currently installed.
The yellows are half as bright.
The greens have a forward voltage of 2.2V, thus requiring a change to the current limiting resistors. They also are half as bright.
The blues, sadly, operate at 3.5V. That's too high unless you want to keep fresh batteries in your remote.
KingBright also has some LEDs. but I haven't seen them being sold discretely. You'd have to buy a 2000 piece reel.
I'll probably go with the red LEDs unless someone can help me find brighter greens and yellows. I'll let everyone know how it turns out. |
