I get about one email per day from this forum, telling me "New Private Message has arrived" and giving me the (correct) URL to my inbox.

But my inbox always says no new messages.

So I don't know whether someone is sending private messages through the forum and they're getting dropped or the forum software imagines them entirely.

Rob, please look into this AFTER you're through with more serious issues. Please don't consider this a nag for your attention now.

Others, if you're sending me private messages through the forum, please use either public messages or email. I never really liked forum private messages anyway.

John - there was one occasion a week or so ago where I started to compose a PM to you, but changed my mind, and replied in the related thread instead.

I seem to remember my browser doing something odd at the time, as I backed out of the PM window, so if your problem started recently, then maybe that partial message/browser crash has got "stuck in the system" and somehow caused it.

Yeah but can you fix it by deleting the offending message - because it's not in any of my folders ?

I've got no idea how to do that as I don't have access to other people's inboxes. The best I could do is start digging through the various databases to see if I can find the offending item, but I don't have that sort of time at the moment.

Ok - sorry, I thought it might be easy.

Maybe if John and I both log out and back in it might help ?

I'm using autologin, and I assume John might do that also.

I've seen that cure odd things like this on forums before now.

Sorry, John if it's inconvenienced you - I assure you it was unintentional.
(if, indeed it is the cause - and not a coincidence)

One extra email per day doesn't bother me at all. If someone had sent me a message I wasn't seeing, I wanted to at least give them a chance to know why I hadn't replied.

I seem to be having this same problem. I got an email today saying that I had a private message and then none to be found when I got here.

Keep in mind that it's always possible that someone sent you a PM and then deleted it before you could read it, even though the notification email had already been sent.
