I have a Sony Model# SLV-760HF VCR which will not accept a cassette.
On inserting the cassette it is rejected.Replacing the the rotary switch
( mode switch ) did not help. Is it necessary to align the connecting
gearing as part of the switch installation?
Is their another failed part which could be the problem?

I haven't seen a mode switch fail on this one but the gears around the base of the pinch roller will break or jump teeth (if it is the model I think it is, can't check until tomorrow, and this was not one of their "good ones" unfortunately).
All of the gears are keyed and must be aligned with each other. Most of them are markes with little triangles or holes that line up through each other.

Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.
