-How do I access functions on the remote that I have assigned to shift+ keys?

-How do I access the add'l device "buttons" (dev7, dev8 on 6131 and db9, db10, etc on 2116)?

Thanks.

On the 6131:
Shifted buttons are accessed by pressing:
1) setup followed by the button
2) setup setup followed by the button, if the button is a number

Hidden devices and phantom buttons can only be used in macros.

Hope that helps.

Thanks!

So, if I only press Setup for a second, it will not go into setup mode?

Two of the hidden device buttons can be accessed without using the extender by placing a couple of macros on, say Shift-DVD and Shift-VCR. See here.

Correct. To enter setup mode you need to press and hold Setup until the LED blinks.

Doh! In the middle of the night the importance of what underquark said about hidden devices finally penetrated. I have several remotes with hidden devices, that I haven't fully implemented because this concept was lost on me. Doh, and double DOH. Now I'm more in love with my old 6131 and 6011's than ever!

Thanks for all the info.

I set up a couple of macros for my hidden 7th device on my 6131. I only need to turn my projector on and off, and occasionally change the aspect ratio. So, it isn't that bad not having a real, fully available 7th device.

Once my 8820 and JP1.2 cable arrive, it will all be a moot point anyway. Hopefully, this will be the last JP1 remote purchase for a while.

I should sell my stack of used JP1 remotes that I don't use anymore!

Not completely, because the URC-8820 has 2 hidden device modes that can also be accessed via macros.

I thought that. Then I got a PVR. I liked and so I bought another PVR. Now both can't be in the same room as one another without remote conflicts so I reprogrammed one PVR (with help from another forum) and both need their own set of signals. In the UK (and some other countries) things are complicated by the introduction of digital broadcasting which means a lot of people now have a digital "set-top box" hooked up to their TV. Lots of digital boxes can be bought on special-offer cheaply from supermarkets now and so there are lots of different boxes to be found in the average house. At the last count I had 21 different devices scattered around the house. Downstairs I have need to control 9 devices in two adjacent rooms. I can get by with the unextended 8820 but there is also an extender now that allows Device Multiplexing whereby one can change the setup code assigned to a device button simply by pressing a key.

I'm fine with the 8 device capability, as I have 7 devices in my HT. : TV, Projector, Satellite, Cable DVR, DVD Recorder, HD DVD Player, Audio Receiver. I really can't see adding another in that room, let alone two more. And, if I do want to add one more, for some goofy reason, I've got a spare.

Also, I have a separate remote for each room. I wouldn't want to control devices in multiple rooms from one remote. I find it more logical to control a room's devices with that room's remote. That's just me.

BTW, why do you need two DVR's in the same room? Just curious.

Nobody actually needs two DVR'sSmile. I've now put them in separate rooms (although one is linked with an AV sender/receiver) for convenience sake.

The devices in this case are 2 x Topfield TF800PVR. In the UK (currently) the digital channels are spread across 6 "muxes" (multiplexes). Each PVR can record from two muxes simultaneously. Two PVRs can, therefore, cover most of the transmissions that anyone would conceivably want to watch.

The device in its native state, BTW, only records two programs at a time but software has been written that allows two whole muxes to be recorded and split into channels at viewing time. Effectively up to 10 or so channels can be recorded at once per device. HDD usage is staggering, however.
