Another thought, maybe use the new diagrams for a JP1.x using SMT components. Don't know how to make a PCB but might be able to layout on a breadboard.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Yes, That gave me the idea to use SMT components. However, I think this is beyond my skills. I was thinking of ordering IC sockets with the chips and connecting them on a bread board to the new design, but that seems more complex than the older JP1.x design with the normal electronic components.
So for myself, who is less skilled in electronics, I think the design shown in http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3585 is the way to go. Just trying to put it on a 15x15 board. |

I built a JP1.2 interface on copper stripboard but have lost the final drawings. This might inspire you, though:
The bottom four rows are just for doodling on. |

FYI- The layout I used is 13x10 giving a place for the wires and fits on the 15x15 board. See http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8746. Make sure you get the transistors oriented correctly. I soldered the IDC and DB9 connections to the appropriate points on the back. |
