Is there a hack to selectively make the URC-9910 use only the IR and not the remote RF link for certain devices?

The application is for devices like the Comcast/Motorola stb's, which have only 1 unit number. With two stb's I keep one out of the line of sight of the rf transmitter, and control it with a separate no-rf remote. I could get the 9910 to do both, if I had a way to tell it not to use the RF for the second device.

There is no possible firmware control over RF in the 9910.

The RF transmit is directly wired into the IR transmit.

I was afraid of that, but I thought I would ask.

I guess the other approach is to turn off the power on the rf->ir box. I actually have an X10 gadget that turns a relay on and off at the wall socket and is controlled by a key fob style rf remote. Although the fob is pretty small, its still an extra gadget.

What would be better would be an ir controllable power relay, so I could automate it with the device selection on the 9910.

I can't imagine why Motorola/Comcast didn't allow for unit codes.

If you have an IR543 box, you can use the 9910 to turn devices on and off using X10, so assuming that you are using the 9910 in the same location as the IR543, you could program it to turn the base unit on and off as needed.

From a remote location, you will only be able to turn the base unit off.
