Strange issue I think.
I have a 15-1995 remote. If I try to run a macro with discrete on or off it doesn't work. If I keymove that discrete code on a button it works fine. I checked the code when running the macro and it changes from Sony20 to sony/12 with different devices codes. Obviousy this is why it doesnt work in a macro. why would the signal change via a macro vs a key move?
1995 and discrete sony code

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you have programmed a macro where the steps are something like ...
SETUP
1
2
3
(where 123 is the EFC of the discrete code)
I'm assuming this is the case because you then go onto describe that programming the EFC to a button works.
Have you tried programming the EFC to a button and then including that button in a macro? If you don't want to "waste" a button for this purpose, why don't you program the EFC to a shifted button or a phantom button?

Yes, I have tried it with button #1 and it works fine.
it just doesn't work with the discrete phantom button.
I have assigned it the same setup codes and efc's as button #1 but in a macro - nota.
I get it to turn on and off fine using 1 and 2 in the macro. (efc 109,113), I was just wondering if anybody has come across this before- the remote changing the assigned setup code and efc in the discrete function when it is used in a macro.
VCR
1-----turns on (1 is assigned the "discrete on" code)
sony/20 device 26 sub 76, efc 113
VCR
discrete on---nothing
changes to sony/12 device 0, efc 113 or 105
obviously this is why the discrete doesn't work with a different code. but why did it change? Anybody seen this before?

It's still not clear to me exactly what you are doing from your description, so could you provide an IR file where you show examples of what works and what doesn't.
