I recently bought a Denon AVR-587 receiver and have been working out the codes for it. I just stumbled on an excellent resource! The Denon web site has a PDF file listing all of the codes for the AVR-987, and they appear to be compatible with the lower models.

Here's how to work it out:
1) Get the PDF from http://usa.denon.com/AVR987-IRCodes.pdf
2) Note the "System Address" - this is the device number in backwards binary notation, so "01000" is device 2 and "00110" is device 12
3) Note the "Extension Bit" at the top of each table - this is important to add to the binary in that table.
4) Look up a key - ex: Test Tone is "010101" with extension bit "11" for a total of "01010111".
5) Convert this BACKWARDS into decimal with the extension, so that "01010111" becomes "11101010", which is 234. THAT'S YOUR OBC!

I'm still working on the Denon-K codes in the PDF, but I feel like I'm getting somewhere somewhere!

Stephen

OK that was quick! The Denon-K commands on the last page work out thus:
1) They all seem to be device 4
2) Subdevice matches the GENRE2 flag, which corresponds to a zone number. So most are subdevice 1 for zone 1.
3) The value in the "No." column IS the OBC - so for example OBC155 on device 4, subdevice 1 switches to the XM tuner for zone1.

Note that a few on my remote aren't listed - iPod input select is OBC717, and FM/AM toggle is OBC152.

Hope this helps someone!
Stephen

It'll be MOST likely to help if you create an actual upgrade including even the functions YOUR device doesn't use (you don't have to assign them to functions), and upload it in the File section.

Creating an upgrade is my next step. I've already entered all the Denon device codes into a spreadsheet and am now moving on to the Denon-K codes...

There are lots of functions here that my tuner's remote didn't include! And this is especially important since the built-in Denon setup codes from UEI don't support most of the functions on new Denon equipment...

For posterity, here are a few more codes missing from the official Denon docs for the AVR-x87 series:

Denon 12, OBC 169, EFC 353, 2CH PLAY (INPUT CH)
Denon 2, OBC 115, EFC 651, INPUT MODE AUTO
Denon 2, OBC 117, EFC 648, INPUT MODE DTS
Denon 2, OBC 116, EFC 388, INPUT MODE PCM
Denon 12, OBC 129, EFC 449, DTS SURROUND
Denon-K 4/1, OBC 800, EFC 725, CURSOR UP (iPod)

Hope this helps someone!
