Wisdom for migrating remotes

Post by beverlyhoward »

Looking for some wisdom before tackling the job migrating from my fully loaded but "long in the tooth" Cinema6 to two or more different replacement remotes.

I'm very comfortable with KM and have almost all of my KM device files based on the Cinema6 but, after going in to begin file conversions to the 8910b02, 6960b00 plus possibly an 8820b00 for remote, the project looks huge at first attempts.

The current Cinema6 load has evolved somewhat over the last year and has been essential to establishing an indispensable single remote setup which my wife can also use.

However, the contacts are failing even after repeated cleaning and the other units have some attractive draws, so it's just a matter of time.

I have virtually all buttons on all devices populated and a high percentage are used regularly.

Any tips on how best to proceed with this project would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I would probably recommend the URC-6131 of the currently available remotes. You'll find equivilent buttons for all of the URC-6800 buttons, plus several extra. Granted, it's not a learning remote, but as long as your URC-6800 isn't completely dead, you can keep it around for the sole purpose of learning the buttons from other remotes (when needed).

URC-6131
Great suggestion to start the transition will see if there are any local... do you carry them?

Your suggestion prompted me to load existing files and select the 6131 and compare what happens compared to selecting the 8910 which I already have and that exercise gives me hope that it might not be as big a job as I first perceived.

I first (several weeks ago) tried with the 6960 loading the Cinema6 Samsung DVD-V3650 file but got a "Warning, Key Map or Button Name Error" and, not being able to trace what was causing the error made me back off a bit. How does one trace that error?

Thanks again, and thanks in advance,

I don't think you'll find the URC-6131 locally anymore as it's been discontinued and replaced with the URC-6131N, which is basically the same remote internally but is different externally. If you're used to the size and shape of the URC-6800, I think the older version of the URC-6131 would be the best fit.

Also, keep in mind that if you do buy the URC-6131 or URC-6131N locally, you will need to modify it for JP1 use, but the mod is quite simple, all you need to do is solder in an EEPROM chip and a 6-pin header.

I do carry both models and I've already modified the ones that I sell.

OK will do. (What's the difference between the two?)

Do you have any chips for sale? I have one remote that needs one and have been unable to locate a source.

Can you send me your snail mail or how to handle non paypal cc payments.

Got your private message with the snail address and will post payment for a 6131n plus extras and shipping tomorrow.

Thanks for the clarifications.
